- Educational Tour of Ghana (A Journey Through History and Culture)
Oh wow, where do I begin? Our tour with Olives Travel and Tours has exceeded all of our expectations in so many ways. First of all, before I even arrived I hadn’t realized that I needed a visa to enter Ghana as an American citizen. I realized this just 2 days before my departure date. I contacted the Ghana Embassy and I was informed that the expedited visa service takes 7 days. It goes without saying that panic set in! My travel companion and I scrambled to look for options to secure a visa for me. We called the Tour Radar customer service and they stated they could not help me; at this point I started to feel hopeless and thought I would have to cancel my trip. After seemingly exhausting all of my options we were about to give up but I decided to Google the Olives Travel and Tours to see if I could find a phone number and call them directly. At 9:00pm, 2 days before our departure I found a phone number and on a whim called the number. My call was immediately answered immediately by the owner himself, Prince Hart Adams. In my haste I forgot that it was 3:00am local in Ghana but despite this fact he was so gracious and committed to secure a visa-on-arrival which would allow my to travel and obtain the visa on Ghana instead of waiting for the long process of getting it beforehand. I must admit I was still nervous about securing the visa because we were cutting things so close. Prince assured me that it would be taken care of and he encouraged me to get my bags together for the trip. Being a man of his word, he secured the visa on arrival document and sent it to me in pdf just in the nick of time! Prince saved the day and salvaged my trip! In terms of the tour itself, it exceeded my expectations and I must admit it was the best tour of my life. Olive Tours does a great job of ensuring that you get a good variety of rich cultural experiences without having a super regimented schedule. I highly recommend Olive Travel and Tours. I can’t wait to book with them again!
What our customers ask about Educational Tours & Trips
What types of cultural activities are included in educational tours?
These tours get you right into the heart of local culture. You'll join traditional naming ceremonies at Ghana's Nkyinkyim Museum, take Spanish classes in Cartagena's historic streets, and spend time with indigenous communities in Ecuador's misty cloud forests. In the Galapagos, you'll work alongside scientists at the Charles Darwin Research Station, where more than 200 researchers study island conservation. Past travelers especially loved watching craftspeople at work in Japan's old neighborhoods and exploring the history of Cape Coast Castle in Ghana, a UNESCO site. You'll stay in places that add to the experience, like the Dormy Inn in Tokyo's Akihabara district.
How are educational tours structured to make the most of learning experiences?
The tours mix expert teaching with real hands-on experiences and cultural immersion. Your days will balance guided visits to historic places with interactive workshops and meetings with local people. In Colombia, you might spend your morning in Spanish class in old town Cartagena, then explore the transformed neighborhood of Comuna 13 in Medellín in the afternoon. In Japan, you'll learn about traditional arts at places like Kanazawa's Kenroku-en Garden while staying at the HOTEL TORIFITO nearby. Local experts travel with you to share stories and context about everything you see.
What kind of places do you stay in on educational tours?
You'll usually stay in comfortable 4-5 star hotels picked for their connection to local culture and history. In Marrakech, you might stay in a riad (a traditional house) like Riad Touda right in the old medina. In Tokyo, places like the Dormy Inn in Akihabara blend modern comfort with Japanese culture. Travelers often mention how much they appreciate staying somewhere that lets them walk to important sites and local neighborhoods.
How much time do you spend with local communities during educational tours?
Meeting local people is a big part of these tours. In Ghana, you'll take part in traditional naming ceremonies and meet local artists. In Colombia, you'll chat with Spanish teachers and neighbors while staying in the heart of Cartagena. Previous travelers really enjoyed visiting small Berber villages in Morocco's Atlas Mountains and meeting craftspeople in Japan's old neighborhoods near the HOTEL TORIFITO KANAZAWA.
What sort of educational activities do these tours include?
You'll find a mix of different ways to learn. In Vietnam, you might join a tea ceremony, try meditation at a Buddhist temple, or learn to cook local dishes. Mexico's tours take you through anthropology museums and to hands-on workshops at Teotihuacan. In Italy, you could study ancient architecture while staying at the Villa d'Este. Or you might learn about desert life in Morocco's Sahara, or try traditional crafts in Vietnamese villages. Each place offers its own special activities focused on helping you learn by doing.
What's included in the meal plan for educational tours?
Food plans change depending on where you go, but they often teach you about local cooking. In Morocco, you'll take cooking classes and enjoy traditional dinners at places like La Maison Bleue in Fes. In Georgia, you'll learn about wine-making and join traditional feasts. As one traveler put it: "The culinary education was exceptional - we learned about local ingredients while staying at the Sheraton Tbilisi, which offered both local and international cuisine."
