- Family Tour in Nepal
We are a couple and stayed in Nepal for roughly 7 weeks in total as we were volunteering in a school in Kathmandu. As we wanted to see something of the country itself as well we travelled for one week through Nepal with Himalayan Sanctuary Adventure. It was very annoying that the company told and called us several times to ask us for a review on Tripadvisor and to add "five stars" to it. Nevertheless in the end we thought it might be helpful for other travelers to get some information and the tour is really worth an excellent five star rating. Katmandu: First of all: We did not include the Kathmandu-Start as we already stayed there for some time and visited some places there on our own. Pokhara: Is a little bit more touristic than Kathmandu. We stayed at the lakeside and liked it a lot. You will visit several highlights as the world peace stupa, the mountain museum and Sarangkot which are all a must see. Accommodation (***-hotel) was totally fine and we had a perfect view to the Himalaya when there were less clouds. Chitwan: We liked this place most in Nepal - absolutely astonishing and also quite clean in comparison to the other places. They really care about nature and garbage what was new for us in Nepal and we really liked that. Accommodation was really great (****-Hotel), had awesome included food, low prices for drinks and perfect/great tour-guides. The time spent there is unforgettable to us and we liked it a lot. Nagarkot: It is a quite long drive (almost 2 hours) to reach this place for some views of the mountains. We were unlucky and had no clear sight all the time we have been up there. Nevertheless it was quite peaceful for us and you are "outside the city" and we liked it up there. Accommodation was totally fine and the food was good and not very expensive. My wife also took a massage which was totally fine and price was quite low. The driver was just awesome and we had a great time with him. He did not speak that much to us but he fulfilled every wish at every time of the day that we had. We did not have any issues or problems on our way and could not have been served better. There are several nice places to see on your way and you might take some pictures out of the window. Nevertheless the roads are sometimes difficult and you need to be patient. Maybe one possibility we did not take but we would like to recommend: If you have two or three days more to spend on your tour we would think of taking a flight from Pokhara to Jomsom. It is a short trip which should not be too expensive and you will arrive in the middle of the mountains on 3000m above sea level. That must be a real great experience of the mountainside in Nepal one can get. All in all we can really recommend to take a tour with Bishnu (CEO of Himalayan Sanctuary Adventure). He was always available for us and cared for our happiness almost every day by sending at least sending an SMS. He also met us before the trip started and explained everything to us. Further on he joined the driver when he came to pick us up and welcomed us to the tour. Everything went totally smooth and we did not have any issues. Great company, great tour – we will be back with them at our next trip to Nepal!
What our customers ask about Nepal Family Tours
What are the best family-friendly activities and attractions in Nepal?
Nepal presents an array of activities that work well for families. Children can spot rhinos and crocodiles on gentle wildlife safaris through Chitwan National Park or explore the ancient temples that dot Kathmandu's squares. The Poon Hill trek near Pokhara stands out as a good choice for families wanting mountain views without intense hiking. A TourRadar traveler noted: "The Buddhist stupa in Kathmandu was amazing. I also got a chance to see live Kumari in Kathmandu Durbar Square." Family-focused accommodations like Hotel Eco Tree in Pokhara and Rhino Land Resort in Chitwan provide practical amenities with spacious rooms for families.
What type of accommodation can families expect in Nepal?
The accommodation landscape for families in Nepal centers on 3-4 star hotels in major cities such as Hotel Moonlight in Kathmandu. Most properties offer practical family setups with connecting rooms or extra beds. A TourRadar traveler shared their experience: "The accommodations were perfect for families - clean spacious rooms at Kasara Resort in Chitwan and Temple Tree Resort in Pokhara with great amenities and child-friendly facilities."
What is the best time of year to visit Nepal with children?
Families find the most reliable weather in Nepal during October-November and March-April. These months bring temperatures of 20-25°C (68-77°F) in Pokhara and Kathmandu making outdoor activities comfortable. Wildlife enthusiasts should consider winter months (December-February) for better visibility in Chitwan National Park. As one TourRadar traveler reported: "The weather was perfect. I may have been lucky for this. Every day was a great moment." The monsoon season (June-September) often complicates travel with heavy rains.
How challenging are the family treks in Nepal?
Family treks in Nepal range from easy walks to more demanding routes. The Poon Hill trek takes 4-5 days reaching heights of 3210m with stays in teahouses along the way. The path follows well-maintained trails with regular stops. According to a TourRadar traveler: "This trek is so easy so if you are a beginner you can start your first hike experience with Ghorepani Poon hill Trek." Porters carry the heavy bags letting children walk with just light daypacks.
What cultural experiences can families enjoy in Nepal?
Nepal's cultural offerings give families a window into local traditions. Families can meet the living goddess Kumari at Kathmandu Durbar Square explore Pashupatinath temple or watch Tharu dance performances in Chitwan. Bhaktapur offers hands-on experiences like pottery making and wood carving demonstrations. A TourRadar traveler described their experience: "We got chance to see Kathmandu city temples palaces beautiful sunrise and sunset view from Nagarkot. The Buddhist stupa in Kathmandu was amazing."
How much time should families plan for a comprehensive Nepal tour?
A well-paced family tour of Nepal needs 10-14 days to cover the main attractions. The Amazing Family Holiday Tour takes 14 days moving through Kathmandu Pokhara Chitwan and key cultural sites. This timeline allows for both activities and rest days which helps when traveling with children. Shorter 8-day tours work well for families focusing on specific areas like the Kathmandu Valley and Pokhara.
