Had a fun time with friends and Fiona!
- Wild Grande - Multi Day - Small Group Tour of Ireland
I highly recommend the Wild Grande tour with Wild 'n Happy. I wanted a small group tour and I specifically chose a touring company based in Ireland because I thought they could provide local knowledge and perspective. I was not wrong! Andy, John and Diarmid drove us on different parts of the tour and shared their knowledge of the history, geography, geology and general information in great detail. Their driving skills on the very narrow lanes between hedgerows was incredibly skillful. I would hate to drive in those circumstances! They were never late and always communicated clearly where, when to meet etc. They are, without exception, a credit to the company and made the tour the success it was and I always felt safe when travelling. We stayed in a selection of large hotels in some cities and smaller bed and breakfast type accommodation. The accommodation in the larger cities wasn't central but the view from the hotel in Cork made up for the hike up the hill. Taxis are available but I chose to walk. Doolin was my favourite place and the breakfasts were amazing. Being a single female traveller of a certain age, I prefer to stay in places closer to town centres, especially when having to walk home alone and late at night in rain. One suggestion I would like to make is to send a summary post-tour of the places we saw and what we learned as it's a bit jumbled after the tour. There was so much information! Other companies that I toured with have done this and it helps to keep the memories alive. Another would be to end the tour after breakfast of the day after the last tour (as this seems to be a fairly common practice). In summary, I want to thank the whole team for a great trip. I've definitely left a bit of my heart in Ireland.
- Irish Discovery
Toured late Sept 2016. We had an awesome bunch of people on this trip very well behaved. The tour guide Simon was very well spoken and a craic to have as our guide. He told us stories about the history of all the places we visited and if he didn't know.....well he made up something that sounded good. Our bus driver what can I say Mags was the ultimate bus driver very safe and friendly. Some of the places we visited had very narrow and winding streets I myself wouldn't have attempted driving there in a car let alone a motor coach but our Mags got us through without even batting an eyelid. The only thing that disappointed us was the night before our Ring of Kerry day trip there was an excess of rain which damaged some of the roads in the area which stopped us from doing the trip but you cannot predict what mother nature will dish up. But other than that I would highly recommend this trip and the optional tours Ireland is a very beautiful and historical part of the world and the locals also are very nice and friendly. Great trip. Great crew, and an awesome guide and driver.
What our customers ask about Budget Tours & Trips to UK and Great Britain
When is the most affordable time to visit UK and Great Britain?
Visit between November and March to find the best deals outside of the Christmas and New Year rush. Hotel rates drop significantly in major cities like London and Edinburgh during these months. Spring (April-May) and fall (September-October) balance good weather with reasonable prices. A 3-day Ultimate Skye Experience costs around USD 156 per day in winter versus higher summer rates. Even rainy days can add to the experience as one TourRadar traveler noted: "We had really good weather even though it rained for one whole day. That was our favorite day because we could experience typical Scottish weather."
What are the best budget-friendly areas to visit in UK and Great Britain?
Head north to find better value. The Scottish Highlands Isle of Skye and Yorkshire let you explore without London's high prices. Budget travelers can find rooms at places like the Black Isle Hostel in Inverness or Portree hostels for USD 25-35 nightly. According to a TourRadar traveler: "The destinations and stops were rich in history and the natural landscapes were incredible - we got to see so much while keeping costs reasonable."
What type of accommodation can I expect on budget tours in UK and Great Britain?
Budget tours mix affordable lodging options from hostels to 3-star hotels. You might stay at Point A Hotel Parnell Street in Edinburgh or The Grand at Trafalgar Square in London. Remote areas like the Scottish Highlands feature places such as Morag's Lodge hostel on Loch Ness with shared dorm rooms. A TourRadar traveler shared about their Highland Experience: "The B&B I stayed in was lovely and well presented. I had a beautiful view of the river Ness from my window."
What's included in terms of meals on budget UK and Great Britain tours?
Entry fees to attractions usually aren't included in budget tours. You'll need to pay extra for sites like Edinburgh Castle (USD 35) Eilean Donan Castle (USD 28) and Urquhart Castle (USD 25). Many natural spots remain free including Glen Coe Loch Ness viewpoints and hiking trails. A TourRadar traveler notes: "Do note that castle entries and the Jacobite Steam Train are extra costs, but our guide provided great advice on which attractions offered the best value."
What's the average daily budget needed for meals not included in tour price?
Set aside USD 40-60 daily for meals outside the tour package. Cities like London and Edinburgh offer lunch options at Borough Market or local cafes for USD 10-15 while casual restaurant dinners cost USD 20-30. A Highland Experience tour participant shared: "There are two restaurants and you had to walk to get your evening meal. The town had maybe 3 restaurants and you had to walk to get your evening meal."
How much do budget tours in UK and Great Britain typically cost per day?
Expect to pay between USD 175-225 daily for budget tours covering basics like accommodation transport and guides. A 5-day Highland Fling tour through Edinburgh Isle of Skye and the Scottish Highlands averages USD 175 daily. One TourRadar traveler confirmed the value: "Great value for money, going to places that you would never have known about or been able to go to without the whole tour bus experience."
