      Song Kul Lake & Tamga

      The 4-hour drive to Song Kul Lake takes you up to 3,016m. Bring altitude sickness medication since headaches are common at this height. You'll sleep in traditional yurts and get a taste of real nomadic life. The next day, stop in Kochkor to see felt-making workshops on your way to Tamga village near Lake Issyk-Kul.

    • Days 5-6

      Karakol & Jeti-Oguz

      Karakol makes a good base for exploring the area. Check out the Russian Orthodox Church and Chinese-built Dungan Mosque. Take a trip to see the "Broken Heart" and "Seven Bulls" red rocks in Jeti-Oguz Gorge. Make sure to wear good hiking shoes since the trails can get slippery.

      Kazakhstan (Saty & Almaty)

      After crossing into Kazakhstan (budget 1-2 hours for border crossing) head to Saty Village in Kolsay Lakes National Park. Take a Russian 4x4 to explore the sunken forest at Kaindy Lake. It's about 4 hours to Almaty via Charyn Canyon. If the weather's good climb Green Hill for nice city views.

      Dushanbe & Fann Mountains

      Book an afternoon flight to Dushanbe to avoid morning traffic. The drive to Iskanderkul Lake offers stunning mountain views and you can hike to nearby waterfalls.       Khujand & Tashkent
