7 Day Baltic States Itinerary, incl. Tallinn and Vilnius
A 7-day journey through 3 Baltic capitals and Helsinki costs around $150 per day. Wander through Tallinn's St. Catherine's Passage, cruise across the Gulf of Finland, admire Riga's Orthodox Cathedral, and tour Trakai's island castle from Vilnius. Comfortable stays in central Ibis hotels rated 8.0+.
- Day 1
Tallinn, Estonia
Land at Tallinn Airport and make your way to your hotel in the medieval Old Town. Wear shoes with good grip since cobblestone streets get slippery in wet weather. Visit Toompea Hill in the afternoon when crowds are smaller. A recent visitor shared: "The casual walking tours in Tallinn were very informative, and they were scheduled at times allowing us plenty of time to explore these great cities on our own."

7 Days in Baltic States, incl. Tallinn and Riga
This 7-day Baltic tour spans 6 historic cities, from Tallinn's medieval streets to Vilnius's Baroque churches. Highlights include Turaida Castle, Salaspils Memorial, and Trakai's island fortress. Approx. $120 per day includes premium Park Inn Meriton stays and regional lunches.
- Days 1-2
Tallinn, Estonia
Begin your Baltic adventure in Estonia's medieval capital. Take the first afternoon to rest and get oriented. You'll appreciate the break since Tallinn's cobblestone streets can be challenging to walk on. On day two, visit the UNESCO-listed Old Town early before cruise ships dock around 10 AM. Head to Toompea Hill's viewing platform when the morning light is perfect for capturing the famous red-roofed skyline. Pack sturdy walking shoes as the medieval streets get slippery in wet weather.
- Day 3
Tallinn to Riga
Plan for a full day of southbound travel with key stops along the way. Visit Pärnu seaside resort first (2 hours from Tallinn) arriving before the busy noon hour at the beach promenade. Continue to Latvia's Turaida Castle in the Gauja Valley. Allow 90 minutes to explore the castle grounds. End your day with a visit to the Salaspils Memorial before reaching Riga. The total drive takes 4-5 hours so pack some snacks and water.
- Day 4
Riga, Latvia
Focus this day on Latvia's capital. Start in the Art Nouveau district to photograph Alberta Street's famous buildings before tour groups arrive. Visit the Central Market between 10 AM and 2 PM when it's most active. The market occupies converted Zeppelin hangars. In Old Town, go up St. Peter's Church tower for city views but check winter closing times.
- Day 5
Riga to Vilnius
Start early with Rundale Palace at 9 AM to avoid tour buses. Drive about 2.5 hours to the Hill of Crosses in Lithuania. You can bring a small cross to add to the collection if you'd like. Finish at Trakai Castle which needs about 2 hours to explore. If traveling November through February visit Trakai the next day due to shorter daylight hours.
- Day 6
Vilnius, Lithuania
Discover Lithuania's capital known as the 'Rome of the North' with its 35 churches. Walking tours usually start at Cathedral Square. Visit the artistic Užupis district after lunch when its cafes and galleries are busiest. Take an evening walk to the Three Crosses monument to watch the sunset over the city.
- Day 7
Vilnius
7 Day Baltic States Itinerary, incl. Vilnius and Tallinn
The grand Baltic circuit takes you to Lithuania's Trakai Castle, Latvia's Rundale Palace, and Estonia's medieval Tallinn. Walk through UNESCO sites in Vilnius and Riga, plus relax in Pärnu's coastal setting. Includes 6 nights in central hotels, tours in 4 languages, and authentic regional dinners.
- Days 1-2
Vilnius, Lithuania
Explore Vilnius Old Town, a UNESCO site, early in the morning to avoid crowds. Visit the Gates of Dawn around 8:30 AM for the best experience. Get your best city views from Gediminas Tower - go in the morning when the sunlight hits the red roofs just right. Take a side trip to Trakai, just 45 minutes away. The island castle is Eastern Europe's largest. Visit in late afternoon when most tourists have left and you'll get beautiful photos across the lake.
- Day 3
Hill of Crosses & Journey to Riga
Stop at the Hill of Crosses near Siauliai on your way to Latvia. You'll need about an hour to see this remarkable site with its 50,000 crosses. Bring good walking shoes - it can get muddy. Make time for Rundale Palace too. Many visitors say it's like a small-scale Versailles, and if you're there in June, you'll catch the rose garden in full bloom.
- Day 4
Riga, Latvia
Spend a full day in Riga's Old Town. Start with city views from St. Peter's Church before exploring the medieval center. Walk around the Art Nouveau district on Elizabetes Street - the architecture is some of Europe's finest. Visit the Central Market in the old Zeppelin hangars before noon to see the best local products.
- Days 5-7
Pärnu & Tallinn, Estonia
Drive north to Estonia, stopping for lunch in Pärnu. Try the local smoked fish in this beach town before the 2-hour drive to Tallinn. Tallinn has Northern Europe's best-preserved medieval center. Visit Toompea for city views, especially from Patkuli viewpoint. The Town Hall Square below is the historic heart of the city. As one visitor noted: "The ancient city walls are incredibly well preserved - walk the section between Fat Margaret Tower and Viru Gate early morning when you can have them almost to yourself." Use your last day to see Tallinn's other sides. Visit Kalamaja's wooden houses and Telliskivi Creative City for local design shops and good coffee.
