14 Day South America Itinerary, incl. Atacama and Machu Picchu
La Paz's cable cars begin this 14-day expedition covering 8 major destinations across Bolivia and Peru. The route continues to Machu Picchu's peaks, Lake Titicaca and Sacred Valley. Includes 31 meals and 3-star hotel stays while visiting archaeological sites and natural wonders.
- Days 1-2
Atacama Desert, Chile
Land in Calama and travel 100km to San Pedro de Atacama (2,300m elevation). Take time to adjust to the altitude before starting activities. Visit the stunning Valle del Arcoiris (Rainbow Valley) for a morning 30-minute walk. You'll need good hiking boots for the rocky paths. Later, relax in the Baltinache Lagoons where high salt levels make swimming effortless. Bring water shoes and protect your eyes from the salty water.
- Days 3-5
Bolivia Salt Flats
Enter Bolivia through Hito Cajon. Stop at Laguna Verde, a bright green lake below Licancabur Volcano. Visit Sol de Mañana Geysers (4,900m) early for the best steam shows. Pack swimwear and a quick-dry towel for Polques hot springs. Drive across Salar de Uyuni, the world's biggest salt flat. A recent visitor said: "The endless white expanse plays tricks on your eyes—bring sunglasses and moisturizer as the salt air is incredibly dry."
- Days 6-7
La Paz & Lake Titicaca
Take a night bus to La Paz (3,640m). See the city by cable car for great views of the mountain-ringed city. Visit the Witches' Market in the morning when vendors set up their traditional medicines and charms. Walk the 2.5-hour trail to Sampaya village near Copacabana for beautiful Lake Titicaca views. The path gets steep, so hiking poles are useful.
- Days 8-10
Sacred Valley, Peru
Travel to Cusco (3,400m) via Peru. Stop in the Sacred Valley to break up the altitude change. Get to Pisac's ruins early to beat the crowds. Visit the market on Sunday when local communities come to trade. At Ollantaytambo fortress, take your time climbing the terraces. The steps are tough at this height, so carry water.
- Days 11-14
Machu Picchu & Cusco
Catch the train to Aguas Calientes for Machu Picchu. Take the first 5:30 AM bus up. Lines start early but you'll get better light and smaller crowds. Plan 4-5 hours to explore. A visitor noted: "The engineering precision of the stonework is mind-blowing—get a guide to understand how they did it." In Cusco, visit San Pedro Market early when fresh produce arrives.
14 Day Southern Peru Itinerary, incl. Lima and Cusco
A grand 14-day route through Bolivia and Peru stops at 22 destinations including Lake Titicaca's floating islands and Machu Picchu. The path leads from Lima through Nazca Lines, Colca Canyon, and Sacred Valley, showcasing diverse landscapes and ancient cultures.
- Days 1-2
Lima & Paracas
Start your trip with a morning city tour of Lima's historic center, exploring San Francisco Convent and the Miraflores district. Take an afternoon bus to Paracas (3.5 hours through the desert). A recent visitor shared: "For most parts, everything was punctual according to instructions, except Paracas which was a bit chaotic - but that's just how Paracas operates."
- Days 3-4
Ballestas Islands & Nazca
Head out early by boat to see sea lions and birds at the Ballestas Islands. Move on to Huacachina oasis where you can try sandboarding if you like. Take an evening bus to Nazca. The next day, book an early morning flight over the Nazca Lines when the air is calmest. Spend your afternoon at the Chauchilla cemetery.
- Days 5-6
Arequipa & Colca Canyon
Take an early bus to Arequipa (10-11 hours). Visit Santa Catalina Monastery once you arrive. The next day, travel to Chivay through Aguada Blanca National Reserve to spot vicuñas. Pack plenty of warm clothing since temperatures drop quickly at high altitudes. The Calera hot springs are perfect for relaxing after long bus rides.

Puno to Cusco & City Tour
- Days 11-12

What people love about 2 week Bolivia and Peru tours
- The Best of Southern Peru + Ballestas Islands, Ica - Huacachina Oasis & Nazca
This was a pretty different experience from my Peruvian tour last year with a bigger company. With that company, I was with one group of people most of the time. With this one, basically the owner (Yure) contracts with local tour groups in each place, then sends detailed instructions about the meeting places, times, documents and things to bring, people that I would be meeting with, etc via the What’s App app. Some parts of the tour, I was traveling with the same guides and travelers for a few days with a private bus for the group, at other points it was just me and a guide or a driver to and from the bus station or hotel. For the most part, everything worked very well. I was traveling on my own with specific dates and places I wanted to visit, and this package was the best match that I found. (Some companies won’t work with you if you don’t have at least 2 people.) I thought it was a pretty good deal for the price. You should have money on hand for tips and souvenirs (there is quite a bit of pressure to buy things in Peru, but most of the stuff is good quality, Peruvians are enterprising and hard working, and overall salaries there are low, so I think it’s important to give back what you can). If you’re a bit adventurous and can roll with the flow (for the most part everything was punctual and happened according to the instructions, except in Paracas, which was a bit chaotic. But honestly, I think that’s just the way Paracas operates at the moment), then it’s a lot of fun. I am also very grateful to Yure and Rebeca (contact in Puno that I didn’t even get to meet), for their support and flexibility when I got sick un Puño a few hours before my bus was supposed to leave for Cusco. They were able to postpone the next leg of the trip for one day, and all I had to pay for was an extra day at the hotel in Puno. I probably got lucky, since I did happen to have one extra day at the end of the tour, and there weren’t a lot of tourists, so there might have been more flexibility than during the high tourist season. And of course I was also lucky that I was just sick for (several horrible hours) one day and I could resume the tour the next day. But Yure and Rebeca did check up on me several times via phone and What’s App. The guides on the tours were very informative and fun. Overall it was a fantastic experience. It probably helps that I speak Spanish, but pretty much everybody I came in contact with spoke passable English or better, so I wouldn’t say that Spanish is a requirement, especially for a traveler that’s flexible, adventurous, and can follow instructions.
- Wonderful Peruvian South
We loved our "Wonderful Peruvian South" adventure by Lima Tours! The company is very professional -- all guides and representatives were superbly competent, knowledgeable and courteous. The tour itself was more than worth the cost and Lima Tours went above and beyond to insure we had a once-in-a-lifetime thrilling experience. Additionally, the company and guides were very flexible in accommodating our requests and desires for the tour. The accommodations and restaurants were superb -- as were the sky-high quality of the individual daily tours. We highly recommend this tour specifically -- and Lima Tours in general to anyone wishing a fun, amazing and wonderful Peruvian adventure!
- The Best of Peru & Bolivia Budget: Lima, Cusco, Sacred Valley, Machupicchu, Rainbow Mountain, Humantay Lake or ATV Tour: Moray & Salt Mines, Titicaca Lake, Copacabana, Sun Island, Uyuni Salt Flats & All Lagoons
Naturally, I am not inclined towards taking agent's help as there are a lot of information sources available online, abundant vloger's stories plus online payment convenience everywhere. Things are changing really fast in the tourism industry. However, this time I backed out of my habit. I didn't have any experience with South American culture or language and I wanted to have a positive experience to come back to this amazing nation again. This company didn't disappoint me at all. They booked tickets ahead of time and had informational guides everywhere. I had always time in my itenary to explore things around on my own. The $600 single supplement was quite expensive after paying the total but I think i can move on as I didn't have a dull moment in this trip with this company. Unfortunate things happen always with bad wifi connections or transportation or guide issues but the company was in touch all the times and were responsive to my needs. All the touristy places were safe with extra police and you can get wifi in cafes almost everywhere. Still, I would always recommend to have a sim or wifi connection on your own if you are staying for that long here specially in Bolivia. Keep it up! And Thanks a bunch!
