      Punta Arenas

      Start your journey in this Patagonian gateway city. The King Penguin Nature Reserve in Useless Bay lets you watch these incredible birds from viewing areas about 50 meters away. Bring plenty of warm clothing. The Patagonian winds can get pretty intense, even during summer months.

      Puerto Natales & Torres del Paine

      Take a 3-hour bus to Puerto Natales to explore Torres del Paine National Park. You'll find hiking options for every skill level, from simple day walks to longer circuits. Summer gives you 17 hours of daylight for exploring. The Grey Glacier boat trip is a must - you'll spend 3 hours sailing past beautiful icebergs.

      Coyhaique Region

    • Days 1-2

      Puerto Varas & Lake District

      Puerto Varas serves as your entry point to Chilean Patagonia. Visit Vicente Perez Rosales National Park to see Lake Todos Los Santos and Petrohue Falls. Take a drive up Osorno Volcano to 1,250m for great views. Plan your hikes for early morning since afternoon winds can pick up quickly.

      Carretera Austral North

      Head south through Hornopirén and Chaiten. You'll need to take a ferry crossing so arrive an hour before departure. Pumalin National Park offers ancient rainforest walks and views of the active Chaiten volcano crater. Take it slow on the gravel roads.

      Queulat National Park

      Stay in Puyuhuapi to visit the park's "Hanging Glacier." The viewpoint hike is tough but worth it. Good hiking boots are essential since the trails get slick. After your hike the thermal springs are perfect for tired muscles.

      Marble Caves & Exploradores Valley

      The road to Puerto Tranquilo has lots of turns so watch for fast drivers coming the other way. See the Marble Caves in the morning light by boat. The San Rafael Glacier trip takes most of your day with 2.5 hours driving and 1.5 hours by boat each way.

      El Chaltén & Fitz Roy

      Cross into Argentina for some serious hiking. Remember El Chaltén has no cell service or ATMs so bring enough cash. The Laguna Capri trail takes about 5 hours and gives you great Fitz Roy views. A recent visitor shared: "Start the Fitz Roy hikes early - afternoon winds can make the final ascent challenging, and clouds often roll in by midday."

      El Calafate & Perito Moreno

      Perito Moreno Glacier sits 80km from El Calafate. Visit in the afternoon for the best photos and more active ice calving. Book your glacier hike well ahead since spots fill up fast in peak season.

      Torres del Paine National Park

      This Chilean national park deserves plenty of time. Plan an early start for the Las Torres hike since it's quite challenging. Book the Grey Glacier boat tour ahead of time. Pack rain gear no matter what since the weather changes quickly.

      Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

      Start your Rio adventure at Christ the Redeemer around 8 AM to beat the crowds. Visit Sugar Loaf Mountain in late afternoon when the lighting is perfect for photos. Take time to walk through the artistic Santa Teresa neighborhood and stop at the beautiful Selarón Steps. Visit Copacabana and Ipanema beaches in early morning or late afternoon to avoid the strong midday sun. Stay in Leblon for good beach access and safer evening walks.

      Patagonia & Torres del Paine

      Take a 4-hour flight to Punta Arenas then drive 3 hours to Puerto Natales, your gateway to Torres del Paine. The weather changes quickly here so pack layers and rain gear. Start the Torres hike before dawn to catch sunrise at the viewpoint. "The final hour is steep and challenging - trekking poles are a must, especially for the boulder field," one hiker shared.

      Atacama Desert
