    Copenhagen

    Vrångö Island

    Catch the morning ferry to Vrångö (45 minutes). From May to September you can go kayaking around this southernmost inhabited island. Pack water-resistant clothes since the sea can get rough. In winter the island is perfect for scenic walks and stopping at cozy cafes.

    Gothenburg

    Take a quick train ride to Alingsås (30 minutes) to experience traditional fika. You'll learn about Swedish coffee culture and try local treats like cardamom buns. Back in Gothenburg visit the Haga area to see wooden buildings and browse antique shops. The streets are cobblestone so wear shoes with good grip.

    Oslo

    Take the morning bus to Oslo (3.5 hours). A local tip: "Buy an Oslo Pass if you want to see lots of museums. It includes transport and most attractions. You'll save money if you visit more than three places." Walk down Karl Johans Gate and stop at the Munch Museum to see "The Scream."

  • Day 1

    Oslo

    Start your Scandinavian adventure in Norway's capital. The Flytoget express train gets you from Oslo Airport to the city center in just 20 minutes. The area around Karl Johans Gate is easy to walk and great for getting your bearings. If you plan to visit multiple museums, getting an Oslo Pass will save you money on transport and entry fees.

    Oslo to Stockholm

    Take a morning city tour of Oslo. Pack some layers since Norwegian mornings can be cold even in summer. The journey to Stockholm takes 6-7 hours, with a stop in Örebro. This Swedish town makes a perfect lunch break. Try the local black pudding at one of the cafés near the castle. From there it's about 2 hours through Sweden's lake country to Stockholm.

    Stockholm

    Get to Gamla Stan (Old Town) early to beat the crowds. A morning tour will take you through winding cobblestone streets. Want great photos? Head to Fjällgatan viewpoint between 9-10 AM when the sunlight makes the colorful buildings look their best. Plan your afternoon around the Vasa Museum. As one visitor said: "Get there by 2 PM when guided tours in English start. The preserved warship is incredible, but you'll want the detailed explanation to fully appreciate it."

    Stockholm to Copenhagen

    You'll spend today traveling south through Sweden. The ferry from Helsingborg to Helsingør takes about 20 minutes. Go to the upper deck for views of Kronborg Castle (the setting for Hamlet). Bring snacks since food at ferry terminals is expensive and options are limited. You'll reach Copenhagen with enough time to walk around the beautiful Nyhavn district in the evening.

    Copenhagen

    Copenhagen is a cyclist's dream with flat streets and great bike lanes. Take a morning city tour, then spend the afternoon exploring like locals do. Rent a bike to check out the trendy Vesterbro area or take a boat tour from Nyhavn. Skip the tourist restaurants on the main harbor and eat at Torvehallerne food halls instead.     Copenhagen

    Leave in the morning for your journey south through Sweden. Take the 20-minute ferry from Helsingborg to Helsingør. Stop at Kronborg Castle in Helsingør, which inspired Shakespeare's Hamlet. You will reach Copenhagen by evening. During busy times, you might stay in nearby Malmö, which connects to Copenhagen via the Øresund Bridge.

    Copenhagen

    Start with a morning tour to get your bearings. Visit the Little Mermaid statue early to avoid crowds, then see the colorful Nyhavn waterfront and Christiansborg Palace. Spend your afternoon biking around this cycle-friendly city. Visit Tivoli Gardens in the evening, especially nice from April to September when days are longer.

    Copenhagen Departure

    Hotels usually require check-out by 10 AM but will store your luggage for later flights. Browse the shops on Strøget, Europe's longest pedestrian shopping street, or visit the free-living community of Christiania. If you are flying from Copenhagen Airport, take the direct train from Central Station. It needs at least 45 minutes.
