10 Days in French Polynesia, incl. Tahiti and Bora Bora
A thoughtfully crafted ten-day journey through French Polynesia unfolds with overnight stays in Tahiti, two nights in Moorea, three in Taha'a, and three in Bora Bora. The package, costing approx. $790 per day, includes nine breakfasts, three dinners, and seamless inter-island transfers.
- Day 1
Tahiti
Arrive in Papeete where you'll get a traditional flower lei welcome. The InterContinental is about 45 minutes from the airport along the northwestern coast. Try to arrive in the morning or early afternoon so you can spend time at the hotel's two infinity pools with views of Moorea Island. Since long-haul flights can leave you tired, keep this first day low-key.
- Days 2-3
Moorea
Take the 8:30 AM ferry from Papeete to Moorea for the smoothest 30-minute crossing. The scenic 25-minute drive to your hotel passes through pineapple fields. Spend your first afternoon exploring Cook's Bay and Opunohu Bay. Get to the Belvedere Lookout before 10 AM on day 3 to beat the crowds and heat. You'll see both bays and Mount Rotui from this stunning viewpoint.
- Days 4-6
Taha'a
After a morning flight to Raiatea, take a 40-minute boat to Taha'a. They call it "Vanilla Island" because it produces 80% of French Polynesia's vanilla. Visit the plantations early when the vanilla smell is strongest. Bring water shoes if you plan to snorkel the coral gardens between the small islands. The coral is sharp but the marine life is incredible.

8 Day French Polynesia Itinerary, incl. Tahiti and Bora Bora
The luxurious Le Paul Gauguin cruise spans seven nights across five distinct islands. Two-day stays in Bora Bora and Moorea provide ample time for immersion, complemented by enriching day visits to Huahine and Taha'a for cultural and natural encounters.
- Day 1
Papeete, Tahiti
Start your trip in Papeete. Arrive 3-4 hours before ship departure to stay relaxed. Visit the Municipal Market in the early morning to watch locals buying fresh fish and tropical fruits. A good tip: buy monoi oil here instead of at the cruise port shops. While ship boarding starts at 3 PM, get there by 2 PM to skip the crowds.
- Day 2
Huahine
After a 6-hour sail you'll reach Huahine, the 'Garden Island.' Visit the ancient marae temples in the morning but bring water shoes as the sites can get muddy. The afternoon is perfect for snorkeling at coral gardens near Fare village. Go between 2-4 PM when the water is calmest to see the famous blue-eyed eels in shallow streams.
- Day 3
Taha'a & Motu Mahana
Today you'll visit the cruise's private island, Motu Mahana. Bring reef-safe sunscreen as the clear shallow water makes it easy to burn. Take a vanilla plantation tour on Taha'a in the morning (book ahead) and enjoy a beach barbecue in the afternoon. The floating bar offers great tropical drinks but remember to drink plenty of water in the strong sun.
- Days 4-5
Bora Bora
You get two full days to explore beautiful Bora Bora. Use day one for lagoon activities and book the shark and ray encounter for the morning when visibility is best. On day two you can hike Mount Pahia (skip Mount Otemanu as it needs technical climbing skills). Start at 7 AM before it gets hot and take a local guide since the trails aren't clearly marked.
- Days 6-7
Moorea
Your ship stops in Cook's Bay with great views of Moorea's peaks. Take the morning 4x4 tour to Belvedere Lookout since afternoon clouds often block the view. Use the second day for water activities at the Lagoonarium. A recent visitor shared: "The drift snorkel between the motus was incredible—we saw more fish varieties than anywhere else, and the current does all the work."
- Day 8
Return to Tahiti
