7 Day Laos Itinerary, incl. Vientiane and Luang Prabang
The itinerary encompasses three major Laotian cities: Vientiane, Vang Vieng, and Luang Prabang. Visits include eight temples including Wat Sisaket, Kuang Si Waterfalls, and Nam Xong River cruising. Nights at selected hotels like S2 Modern Boutique showcase cultural and natural highlights.
- Days 1-2
Vientiane Exploration
Begin your Laos journey in the relaxed capital city. Visit Wat Sisaket at 8am opening to see its thousands of Buddha statues before the day heats up. Next, head to the golden That Luang stupa early. "The morning light makes the gold exterior absolutely radiant, but bring a hat as there's little shade." Spend your afternoon at COPE Center learning about Laos' UXO history. Book your hotel near Nam Phou fountain for easy access to evening food markets.
- Day 3
Vientiane to Vang Vieng
Take the 3.5-hour drive north through dramatic karst landscapes. Make a stop at the Hmong village at KM 52 for local handicrafts. Visit the ancient Buddha statues at Vang Xang along the way. "The boat ride on Nam Song River at sunset was magical, but pack a light jacket as it gets cool on the water."
- Day 4
Vang Vieng Activities
- Days 5-6
Luang Prabang Immersion
Watch the morning alms ceremony with a guide who can help you observe respectfully away from tourist groups. Remember to dress modestly. "Watching the monks collect alms at sunrise was humbling. Bring a shawl—it gets chilly in the morning." Visit Wat Xiengthong at 8am opening for the best photo opportunities. Take an early boat trip to Pak Ou Caves to avoid the afternoon heat on the Mekong. At Kuang Si Falls start at the top pools and work down. Wear good shoes as paths can be slippery. Stop by the bear sanctuary at the base. Browse the Night Market on Sisavangvong Road from 5pm onward.
- Day 7
Final Morning
7 Days in Laos, incl. Vientiane and Luang Prabang
This cultural tour connects Vientiane, Vang Vieng, and Luang Prabang. The route includes 6 major temples including Wat Si Saket, 3 caves, and Living Land Farm. Four-star hotels provide comfort with daily breakfast, 1 lunch, and 2 dinners included.
- Day 1
Vientiane
Land at Wattay International Airport and take a quick 15-minute transfer to your hotel in central Vientiane. The airport is just 6km from downtown. Spend your afternoon getting to know the walkable city center. Around 5pm head to the Mekong River promenade where you can join locals and sample food from street vendors as the sun sets.
- Day 2
Vientiane
Beat the heat with an early visit to Wat Si Saket the oldest Buddhist temple in Laos. Next visit the COPE Centre which opens at 9am. Plan about 2 hours to learn about Laos' UXO challenges. See the golden stupa Pha That Luang before lunch then take a 45-minute drive to see the unique Buddha Park. As one visitor shared: "The Crown Plaza hotel in Vientiane was amazing and provided a perfect base for exploring the temples."
- Day 3
Vang Vieng
Take the morning 4-hour drive north to Vang Vieng where you'll see stunning karst mountains. Bring motion sickness pills if needed since the road has many curves. After checking in cross the Nam Song River to visit the Blue Lagoon and Tham Pou Kham cave. Remember good walking shoes for the slippery cave steps and swimming gear for a refreshing dip in the lagoon.
- Day 4
Vang Vieng to Luang Prabang
- Day 5
Luang Prabang
Wake up at 5:30am to watch the daily alms-giving ceremony. Bring something warm to wear and keep a respectful distance from the monks. Take a vintage tuk-tuk tour of the old town after breakfast including stops at Wat Xiengthong and the Royal Palace Museum. Visit Kuang Si Falls in the afternoon but try to arrive early to avoid crowds. The pools are perfect for swimming but stay quite cool all year.
- Day 6
Living Land Farm & Luang Prabang
Start your morning at Living Land Farm at 9am to try traditional rice farming. Wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty and bring sun protection. You'll work with water buffalos and enjoy lunch afterward. You can spend your free afternoon at either the UXO Centre or Ock Pop Tok weaving center. Their garden café looks out over the Mekong and offers free shuttles from old town every hour.
- Day 7
Departure
7 Days in Laos, incl. Luang Prabang and Nong Khiaw
A rich immersion spanning 3 Laotian destinations: Luang Prabang's UNESCO sites, Nong Khiaw's riverside charm, and Pak Ou's sacred caves. The itinerary features 4 guided treks, 2 boat journeys, and 6 nights in 3-star hotels with daily breakfast.
- Day 1
Arrival in Luang Prabang
Arrive at Luang Prabang International Airport and make your way to the UNESCO-listed old town. "Luang Prabang is beautiful" is a common refrain from visitors. Take your first afternoon to walk around this easily navigable city. A relaxing evening walk along the peninsula between the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers sets the perfect tone. Get some rest early since tomorrow starts at dawn.
- Day 2
Ancient City & Kuang Si Falls
Start at 5:00 AM for the daily alms-giving ceremony. Remember to bring a shawl for the cool morning air. Visit the morning market to see locals trading river fish and foraged vegetables. After breakfast explore the Royal Palace Museum and Wat Xiengthong temple with its signature swooping roofs. Take an afternoon trip to Kuang Si Falls, about 45 minutes away. You can swim in the pools but pack water shoes as the paths get slippery. Head to Mount Phousi around 5:30 PM to secure a good sunset viewing spot.
- Day 3
Nahm Dong Park Adventure
Travel 10km outside town to Nahm Dong Park for ziplining. You'll spend about an hour soaring over jungle canopy and waterfalls. Go jungle trekking across hanging bridges afterward. Pick from 1-3 hour routes based on your fitness level. Stop for lunch at the Mount Phousi viewpoint. Pack quick-dry clothes and spare socks.
- Day 4
Mekong River to Nong Khiaw
Board a morning boat up the Mekong to see the Pak Ou Caves filled with thousands of Buddha statues. Sit on the left side of the boat for the best views of limestone karsts. After the caves take a 3-hour drive to Nong Khiaw. Visit Phathok Cave which served as a shelter in the Secret War. One visitor noted: "The cultural sites were very interesting and our guide was extremely knowledgeable about the war history."
- Day 5
Nam Ou River Exploration
Leave at 8 AM for a longboat ride upstream. Stop at local villages and schools (on weekdays) before a one-hour trek to Tad Mork waterfall. Bring hiking shoes as the trail gets muddy. Continue to Muang Ngoi which still maintains its authentic charm. The return trip to Nong Khiaw takes about 2.5 hours downstream.
- Day 6
100 Waterfalls Trail & Return
Set out for the 100 Waterfalls trail, a 4-hour trek through cascading water. Wear clothes you can get wet in and grippy water shoes. Your guide will serve lunch by the river. The afternoon walk down gives you great views of Nam Ou valley. Take a boat to the dam then drive back to Luang Prabang for about 3 hours.
- Day 7
Final Morning & Departure
Use your last morning to visit the Traditional Arts and Ethnology Center (closed Mondays) or browse the morning market. Plan your departure flight around the noon checkout time. If you have extra time visit the Ock Pop Tok Living Crafts Center which offers free tours every half hour until late afternoon.
What people love about 7 day Laos tours
- Laos Highlight Tour in 7 Days
We had 7 days in Laos and decided to book Vientiane and Luang Prabang with Bravo Indochina Tours. Not was our consultant. He made some change as per our request. He arranged domestic flight, guides and all the logistic. We chose 3 stars accommodation. Hotels were better than our expectation. Our 2 guides were able to speak English well and very experienced. We had great time in Laos and will recommend Not and his team

- 6 Days Hidden Gems Of Laos And Mekong Serenity
Our guide in Luang Prabang was excellent also the accommodation was excellent with location and cleanliness included foods was very good, however the accommodation in Vientiane was below standard wifi wasn’t workinb during our stay. Driver Mr King in Vientiane was very informative and friendly. It would be fantastic if this tour has more upgrade options in Luang Prabang there is a non-riding elephant conservation full day trip which including cooking class we could have done if there was an option for us to pay and book as a upgrade before the tour starts
