3 Days in Taman Negara, incl. Kuala Lumpur and National Park
The wilderness of Malaysia unfolds over three days and 462km from Kuala Lumpur. Two nights at Mutiara Taman Negara Resort set the stage for a 1.5-hour trek up Teresik Hill (340m), canopy walks, and swimming at Lata Berkoh rapids.
- Day 1
Kuala Lumpur to Taman Negara
Leave KL by 7 AM to avoid morning traffic on the Eastern highway. You'll spend about 4 hours driving to Labu Sentral. From there take a one-hour longboat ride to Mutiara Taman Negara Resort. Space is limited on the boat so pack light but bring water and snacks. After checking in take a guided night walk in the rainforest. You'll need closed shoes with good grip for the slippery paths and a headlamp or flashlight to keep your hands free for balance.
- Day 2
Taman Negara National Park Exploration
Start your day with a morning hike up Teresik Hill (340m) which takes about 1.5 hours. Getting an early start helps you avoid the worst heat and humidity. Visit the canopy walkway before 10 AM to skip the crowds. The walkway sits 40 meters high in the forest canopy. If heights make you nervous start with shorter sections to get comfortable. In the afternoon take a boat to Lata Berkoh rapids for swimming. Bring water shoes since the rocks can be sharp. During rainy season (November-February) swimming might not be possible so have backup activities planned.
- Day 3
Return to Kuala Lumpur
3 Day Malaysia Itinerary, incl. Kuala Lumpur and Cameron Highlands
A three-day Malaysian route spans 420km from Kuala Lumpur to Penang. The trip takes you to Batu Caves temple, Lata Iskandar waterfalls, and Cameron Highlands' attractions. Two nights at Strawberry Park Resort let you uncover five distinct cities.
- Day 1
Kuala Lumpur to Cameron Highlands
Leave Kuala Lumpur by 8:30 AM to avoid the morning rush hour. Head to the Batu Caves first. The 272 rainbow-colored steps leading to the Hindu temple are best tackled in the morning before it gets too hot. Remember to wear clothes that cover your shoulders and knees for the temple visit. Next stop is Lata Iskandar waterfalls where you can take a break and cool off. The full journey to Cameron Highlands is about 210km and takes roughly 4 hours on mountain roads. If you get carsick easily sit in the front seat and bring some ginger tablets.
- Day 2
Cameron Highlands Tea Experience
Start your day at the BOH tea plantation (note that it's closed on Mondays). Go before 10 AM to enjoy the misty morning views and beat the tour buses. After learning about tea making visit the morning market in Tanah Rata to find fresh strawberries and local vegetables. The afternoon is perfect for visiting the butterfly farm and rose garden when it's not too hot. You can spend the late afternoon until about 4 PM exploring Tanah Rata's walking trails. Wear good walking shoes since the paths can get slippery from the frequent rain.
- Day 3
Cameron Highlands to Penang
Start your last day with a local breakfast. Try the roti canai with some locally grown tea. Plan to check out by 11 AM and leave around 1 PM for Penang. The 210km trip takes about 6 hours because of the winding roads and evening traffic near Georgetown. Sit on the right side of the vehicle if you want the best views of the valleys.
3 Days in Malaysia, incl. Kuala Lumpur and Cameron Highlands
Rolling highlands and cultural sites fill this three-day, 420km Malaysian tour. Your route encompasses Kuala Lumpur, Batu Caves, Lata Iskandar, Cameron Highlands, Tanah Rata, and Penang, with two nights at the luxurious Cameron Highlands Resort.
- Day 1
Kuala Lumpur to Cameron Highlands
Leave Kuala Lumpur by 8:30 AM to avoid rush hour traffic. Your first stop is the Batu Caves. Get there before 10 AM when it's cooler and less crowded. You'll need to climb 272 steps to reach the Hindu temple so wear good walking shoes. Remember to bring a scarf to cover your shoulders at this religious site. Next up is Lata Iskandar waterfalls for a quick break. The water flow is strongest during rainy season from November to March. The full 210km trip to Cameron Highlands takes about 4-5 hours. You'll reach your highland resort by mid-afternoon.
- Day 2
Cameron Highlands Exploration
Visit the Tanah Rata morning market right at opening time for the best local produce. Head to the BOH tea plantation next (it's closed on Mondays). Plan your visit for mid-morning when the mist usually clears. You'll get better photos of the terraced hills then. In the afternoon visit local farms. Pick your own strawberries but bring cash since most small vendors don't take cards. See the butterfly farm and rose garden before 4 PM while there's still good light for photos. Bring a light jacket as evening temperatures can drop to 18°C (64°F).
- Day 3
Cameron Highlands to Penang
Take a morning walk around Tanah Rata in the cool air. Start your 210km drive to Penang at 1 PM to arrive around 7 PM. The route shows off beautiful views of Malaysia's western countryside. The highland roads are winding so take motion sickness pills if you need them. Your journey ends in Penang where you can start exploring Georgetown's famous food scene.
