7 Day Scandinavia Itinerary, incl. Copenhagen and Helsinki
A vibrant 7-day tour weaves through Denmark, Sweden, and Finland. Marvel at Copenhagen's colorful Nyhavn, Stockholm's medieval Gamla Stan, and Helsinki's historic Suomenlinna Fortress, featuring an overnight Baltic Sea crossing.
- Days 1-2
Copenhagen, Denmark
Get to Nyhavn before 9 AM to see the famous colorful houses without the crowds. Morning light is perfect for photos and you can grab coffee at the newly opened cafes. The Little Mermaid statue is a quick stop - it's smaller than most people expect. Make sure to catch the changing of the guards at Amalienborg Palace at noon. A Copenhagen Card is worth buying if you plan to visit multiple sites. It covers public transport and Tivoli Gardens admission. Visit Tivoli in the late afternoon when it's less crowded.
- Day 3
Copenhagen to Stockholm
Start early with a visit to Kronborg Castle (known as Hamlet's castle) in Elsinore. Take the 20-minute ferry to Sweden - sit on the port side for the best views. Stop for lunch in Jönköping about 4 hours from the ferry. Try the local småländska kroppkakor (potato dumplings) at Restaurang Sjön by Lake Vättern.
- Days 4-5
Stockholm, Sweden
Explore Gamla Stan (Old Town) before 10 AM to beat the crowds. The Nobel Prize Museum opens at 9 AM and fills up quickly. Visit Fjällgatan viewpoint in the afternoon for the best lighting for city photos. A regular visitor shares: "The Stockholm City Hall tour is worth every penny—book in advance as English tours often sell out. The Vasa Museum needs at least 2 hours, and the lighting is best for photos in the morning."
- Days 5 Evening-6
Stockholm to Finland
- Days 6-7
Finnish Coast to Helsinki
Arrive in Turku at 7 AM and visit Turku Castle when it opens at 10 AM. Spend about 2 hours in nearby Naantali's wooden Old Town. You'll reach Helsinki by early afternoon. Start at Senate Square for orientation and walk to Market Square by the harbor for local food. Visit Suomenlinna fortress islands - ferries run every 30 minutes with your HSL day ticket. Plan 3-4 hours for the fortress.
7 Days Baltic Capitals, incl. Stockholm and Tallinn
The 7-day route winds through Stockholm, Helsinki, and Tallinn. Wander Stockholm's Gamla Stan, visit the UNESCO-listed Suomenlinna fortress, and sail across the Åland Islands. Features quality hotels, guided tours, and scenic ferry journeys with en-suite cabins.
- Days 1-3
Stockholm, Sweden
Your first three days are perfect for exploring Stockholm's unique island layout. Begin in Gamla Stan, the medieval old town. Get to the Royal Palace by 9:30 AM to see the changing of the guard before the crowds show up. Be careful on the cobblestone streets when it's wet. Visit the Vasa Museum early on day 2 when it opens at 10 AM. If you're planning to visit several museums, the Stockholm Pass is worth the money. Take the overnight ferry to Finland on day 3. Book a starboard cabin for the best morning views of the archipelago. The ferry terminal is a 20-minute trip from central Stockholm. Give yourself extra time if you're traveling during rush hour.
- Day 4
Turku and Helsinki, Finland
Once you dock in Turku you can explore Finland's oldest city. If time allows, check out the medieval Turku Castle which opens at 10 AM. The 2-hour drive to Helsinki takes you through Naantali's beautiful wooden town. When you reach Helsinki start at Senate Square to get your bearings. The Kamppi Chapel of Silence is a peaceful wooden sanctuary in the middle of the city.
- Day 5
Helsinki to Tallinn
Start your day with a trip to Suomenlinna Fortress. You'll need 2-3 hours to explore and should bring a windbreaker since it gets windy. The ferry ride to Tallinn takes 2.5 hours. "The approach to Tallinn is magical - you see the spires of the old town emerging as you near the harbor. Try to be on deck about 30 minutes before arrival."
- Days 6-7
Tallinn, Estonia
Tallinn's medieval center is a UNESCO World Heritage site that needs proper time to explore. Get to Toompea Hill early for the best city views without crowds. The steepest cobblestone streets are in this area so good walking shoes are essential. Make sure to see the Holy Spirit Church's historic clock in the lower town. Finish your trip with dinner on Rataskaevu Street where you can try traditional Estonian food.
7 Day Scandinavia Itinerary, incl. Copenhagen and Oslo
7-day Nordic exploration covering Copenhagen's Tivoli Gardens to Oslo's Hadeland Glassverk. Experience Gothenburg's sustainable initiatives, kayak Vrango Island, and enjoy traditional fika in Alingsas. Includes centrally located accommodations and expert local guides.
- Days 1-2
Copenhagen, Denmark
Visit Nyhavn early on your first day around 8 AM to see the famous colored houses without the crowds. The lighting is perfect for photos at this time. You can find plenty of good restaurants in the Nørrebro area open until 10 PM. For your second day, take a Street Voices tour to learn about Copenhagen from local guides who know the city inside out. Buy a 24-hour City Pass for about $20 to use all public transport. If you're visiting in summer, do what the locals do and cool off at the harbor baths. Islands Brygge is the best spot for newcomers since they have lifeguards.
- Day 3
Malmö to Gothenburg
Take a morning train to Malmö across the Øresund Bridge. The trip takes 45 minutes. Pack light since many Swedish stations have stairs to climb. Walk around Malmö's Old Town and try renting a pedal boat if the weather's good. Later, take the 3-hour train to Gothenburg. Pick a seat on the left side to see the coast.
- Day 4
Vrångö Island & Gothenburg
Take the ferry to Vrångö in the morning (45 minutes from Saltholmen). Go kayaking before noon when the water is calmest. A recent visitor said: "The kayaking was incredible, but bring water shoes – the rocky beach entry can be slippery." Back in the city, spend time in the Haga area looking at the old wooden buildings.
- Day 5
Alingsås & Gothenburg
- Day 6
Oslo
The bus to Oslo takes about 3.5 hours. Get an Oslo Pass if you want to see multiple museums. It covers public transport and most attractions. Book the Munch Museum ahead of time in summer. For dinner, try the fresh seafood at Aker Brygge waterfront but know that main dishes usually cost $40 or more.
- Day 7
Oslo

- Lapland Winter Adventure
I had a wonderful time on my Lapland Winter Adventure, as arranged by Arif, out of Carisa Travel. He was organized, and made things very clear to me, which I appreciated because I was traveling alone.,
