10 Day Oman Itinerary, incl. Muscat and Salalah
A 10-day route winds through 20 Omani cities costing around $3,000. The path leads through 6 distinct regions, showcasing Muscat's historic sites, Nizwa's ancient fort, and Salalah's frankincense groves. Nights include Wahiba Sands camping, turtle watching at Ras al Jinz, and Jebel Shams peak ventures.
- Day 1
Muscat to Ras Al Hadd
Leave Muscat early and drive the coastal route to Sur. Visit Quriyat fishing village and the Bimmah Sinkhole along the way. Stop at Fins Beach for a swim but wear water shoes for the rocky surface. Plan about 3 hours to explore Wadi Shab's pools and hiking trails. In the evening visit Ras al Jinz Turtle Reserve to see green turtles nesting. Plan your visit after 9 PM for the best viewing and pack some warm clothes.
- Days 2-3
Desert and Interior
Start at Wadi Bani Khalid in the early morning. Remember to pack modest swimwear. Drive to Wahiba Sands for sunset dune bashing and spend the night at a desert camp. The next day takes you to historic Nizwa about 2.5 hours away. If you're there on Friday morning you can see the traditional cattle auction. The fort opens at 9 AM and offers great city views but watch for low doorways.
- Days 4-5
Mountain Adventures
Visit Misfat Al Abriyyin to explore its ancient mud houses and narrow paths. Drive up to Jebel Shams in a 4x4. The road is steep so check your vehicle's brakes before starting the climb. Get an early 7 AM start the next day for the Balcony Walk along Wadi Ghul with its Grand Canyon-like views. Visit the remote village of Bilad Sayt through Wadi Bani Awf's mountain roads.
- Day 6
Muscat Exploration
- Days 7-8
Salalah Region
Take a one-hour flight to Salalah. Visit Taqah's castle and the old port of Sumhuram to the east. If you're visiting during khareef season check out the green landscapes and waterfalls at Wadi Darbat. Spend the next day seeing frankincense trees and Mughsail Beach's blowholes which are most impressive at high tide.
- Days 9-10
Empty Quarter and Return
10 Days in Oman, incl. Muscat and Salalah
A grand 10-day route spans 7 cities from Muscat to Salalah, featuring 2 nights at Shangri-La Al Bandar and desert camps. Three UNESCO sites await: Sumharam ruins, Frankincense Museum, and ancient falaj systems. Desert crossings and canyon treks fill 4-hour adventures.
- Days 1-2
Muscat
Begin your Omani adventure in the capital city. Visit the Bait Al Zubair Museum and Al Alam Palace. On day 2, take a morning cooking class with local women in Sidab Village. A good tip for the Muttrah Souq is to arrive around 8am before the crowds and heat build up. Be mindful to dress modestly with shoulders and knees covered.
- Days 3-4
Jebel Shams
- Day 5
Nizwa and Wahiba Sands
- Days 6-7
Empty Quarter
- Days 8-10
Salalah Region

For the Muttrah Souk, park at the Corniche and walk in instead of trying to find parking near the market. Visit after 4 PM when it's cooler and less crowded.

What people love about 10 day Oman tours
- Explore Oman - Self Drive Tour
The Tour itself was marvellous! All the highlights of Oman are covered and we enjoyed it thoroughly. Hotels are clean and a fair deal for the price. Only with the car rental company we had a rough start. (The Tour is organized by a local subcontractor -Kurfan Tours- in Oman). Initially they brought us a car with 186000 km on the odometer, without working lights and a fault in the brake system (!). Upon complaining, the car rental company exchanged it against a fairly new Toyota without problems but still it was a hassle as not everybody speaks English there. Overall, I'd do it again and I'd also recommend thisTour to others. Just be aware that sometimes you need to insist on proper conduct. P.S. The car rental fee includes only 200km per day. That's not quite enough. So calculate a bit more for extra km (50 Baizas per km).
- Oman Luxury Tour
My wife and I recently experienced the Oman Tour organized by Peregrine Treks, and it was truly an unforgettable adventure. From the moment we landed in Muscat, we were captivated by the warm desert breeze and the vibrant culture. Our stay at Mysk Al Mouj was incredibly comfortable, and we enjoyed exploring the lively Muttrah Souq on our first day. Day two was a highlight, with visits to the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque and the Royal Opera House. The architectural beauty and cultural richness of these sites were astounding. The pulse of the city was most vibrant in Muttrah Souq, and we loved partaking in the art of negotiation. Traveling through Nizwa and Jebel Akhdar felt like stepping back in time. The history and beauty of these places left us spellbound. The desert encounter on day four was magical, with a night under the stars and a feast fit for kings. Meeting the Bedouin family was a unique and heartwarming experience. Our journey continued with the cooling waters of Wadi Bani Khalid and the serene turtle sanctuary at Ras al Jinz. Watching the green turtles under the moonlight was a truly mesmerizing experience. The coastal gems of Wadi Shab and Fins Beach were equally breathtaking, with crystal-clear waters and lush landscapes. The snorkeling adventure in the Sea of Oman was another highlight, offering us a glimpse into the vibrant underwater world. Seeing dolphins up close was a thrilling experience. Our stay at Crown Plaza Muscat was the perfect way to end our trip. Peregrine Treks and Tours ensured every detail was taken care of, making our Oman adventure seamless and enriching. We leave with a treasure trove of memories and stories to share, deeply grateful for this extraordinary journey.
- 8 Days Group Tour of Blissful Oman
Communications with MTA were very good. From the moment I stepped off the plane to the second I returned to fly out, everything went flawlessly. Lodging was very good. Transportation was excellent. It was just me and my driver-guide so we enjoyed flexibility in the schedule. This was especially important due to early rains which shut off some sites due to flooding. My guide was a font of knowledge and intent on making my visit seemless and enjoyable. My cautions would be if you are mobility impared, this isn't the tour for you and do not go between mid to late May and mid September. JOB WELL DONE
