14 Day Peru Itinerary, incl. Lima and Cusco
Across 14 days and 8 cities, this Peruvian odyssey takes you from Lima to Cusco. The adventure features a 4-day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, visits to Arequipa's Santa Catalina Monastery, condor spotting at Colca Canyon, and immersion in traditional culture through Ccaccaccollo homestays and Pachamanca feasts.
- Days 1-2
Lima & Journey to Nazca
Begin in Lima's artsy Barranco district. "The craft beer scene in Barranco offers a perfect first-night introduction to Peru's capital." Your first morning is perfect for local market visits before taking a 7.5-hour bus ride to Nazca. Book an early afternoon bus to avoid Lima's busy morning traffic.
- Day 3
Nazca Lines & Overnight to Arequipa
Take an early morning flight over the Nazca Lines before the winds pick up. Try a traditional Pachamanca feast where locals cook food underground. "The Pachamanca lunch was a highlight - watching the ceremonial unearthing of the food gave us real insight into local traditions," according to a TourRadar review. Head to Arequipa on an overnight bus.
- Days 4-5
Arequipa & Colca Canyon
Visit the colonial "White City" of Arequipa. Get to Santa Catalina Monastery early to avoid crowds. A recent visitor suggests: "Try the spicy rocoto relleno at a local picantería - but order mild if you're sensitive to heat." On Day 5, take a full-day trip to Colca Canyon and enjoy the hot springs. Bring warm clothes for cold mornings and lighter ones for warm afternoons.
- Days 6-7
Colca Canyon to Cusco
Get up early for the condor viewpoint. "Getting there by 6:30 AM maximizes your chances of seeing condors riding the morning thermals," says a visitor. After seeing local villages, take an overnight bus to Cusco. Use Day 7 to adjust to the altitude at 11,152 feet. Take it slow and drink coca tea to help with the elevation.
- Days 8-9
Sacred Valley
Stay overnight with local families in Ccaccaccollo. "The women's weaving cooperative showed us traditional techniques passed down for generations," shares a traveler. See Pisac's ruins and market, then move on to Ollantaytambo. Spend your second night in Ollantaytambo to get ready for the Inca Trail.
- Days 10-13
Inca Trail to Machu Picchu
Spend four days on the challenging but incredible Inca Trail. Tackle Dead Woman's Pass (13,769 ft) on Day 11. Start early since clouds often roll in during afternoon. A TourRadar reviewer notes: "The porters and cooks were incredible. Having hot tea waiting at camp made the tough days manageable." Arrive at Machu Picchu for sunrise on Day 13.
- Day 14
Final Day in Cusco
14 Days in Peru, incl. Machu Picchu and Amazon
A remarkable 14-day Peru adventure spans 14 cities across 293 miles. The path leads from Lima through Tambopata National Reserve, along the 4-day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, past Sacred Valley ruins including Pisac and Ollantaytambo, ending at Lake Titicaca's floating islands.
- Days 1-2
Lima and Amazon
Start in Lima before catching a 2.5-hour flight to Puerto Maldonado. From there, take a 2-3 hour motorized canoe ride to your jungle lodge in Tambopata National Reserve. A recent visitor shared: "Watching wildlife during the night walk around the lodge grounds was incredible - bring a good flashlight!" Your eco-lodge offers basic amenities with solar-heated showers and candle lighting.
- Days 3-4
Amazon and Cusco
Spend a full day exploring the Amazon with expert guides, spotting wildlife on oxbow lakes and walking forest trails. Head back to Puerto Maldonado for your 1.5-hour flight to Cusco. Take it easy once you arrive - Cusco's altitude tops 11,000 feet. The Cusco Planetarium makes a perfect evening activity to learn about Inca astronomy.

14 Days in Peru, incl. Lima and Cusco
A grand 10-city tour from Lima to Puerto Maldonado awaits. Marvel at UNESCO sites Plaza de Armas and Machu Picchu, watch condors soar at Colca Canyon, and visit Lake Titicaca's reed islands. Includes jungle lodge stays and 22 meals.

- Days 3-4
Colca Canyon & Lake Titicaca
Head out early through Salinas National Reserve to reach Colca Canyon's viewpoint at 16,108ft. Pack altitude medication and coca tea since the elevation is intense here. The next day, watch for Andean condors between 8-10am before heading to Puno. When you arrive at 12,000ft, take it easy and drink plenty of water.
- Days 5-6
Lake Titicaca & Transfer to Cusco
- Days 7-9

- Days 10-11
Machu Picchu & Cusco
Take an early bus to Machu Picchu. Get there for 6am opening to avoid crowds. Bring your passport to get the special Machu Picchu stamp. After your guided tour, spend time exploring on your own. Take the train back to Cusco and use the next day to rest since the 11,152ft elevation is tough on the body.

What people love about 2 week Peru tours
- Peru: Ancient Cities & the Andes
This was an amazing tour, exposing us to a range of Peru's geography and culture. There is a lot of travel involved, so be well-rested before you go. The night buses are very comfortable, but a long day followed by a night on a bus followed by another long day with a very early start can be wearing. You might need to supplement your breakfast, usually it is flat bread and jam, not a lot of protein - but the fresh juices are amazing. Be very diligent and adamant about no meat if you are vegetarian. The Inka Trail is phenomenal - amazing views, amazing food, amazing people - but make sure you have something to put under your nose (like Vicks or some other methol) to wipe out the smell of the squat toilets you will need to use along the way. Finally, the guides are wonderful, deserving of your respect. I felt safe at all points of this tour, learned a lot about Peru and about myself, and have 9 new friends
- Journeys: Iconic Peru National Geographic Journeys
The tour was amazing! The transportation was on time, the activities were great, guides were well prepared for presentations and questions. In the Amazon, Dellfort was enthusiastic to show us as many things as possible. During the Inca trail, Nick was always making sure we are doing ok, always communicating what was next (even duration of each path - extraordinary!). I had such a pleasant trip, it felt like vacation and also adventure. I am grateful for it and glad I could explore so much of Peru.
