7 Day Peru Itinerary, incl. Cusco and Machu Picchu
The diverse 7-day Peru adventure spans 9 destinations, including UNESCO site Machu Picchu, Rainbow Mountain at 5,020m, and Humantay Lake. Accommodations at Villa San Blas in Cusco, visits to Sacred Valley towns like Pisac and Ollantaytambo, with buffet meals in Urubamba and Cusipata.
- Day 1
Cusco City Arrival & Exploration
Land in Cusco before noon to adjust to the high altitude (11,152 ft). Take it slow your first day. Visit the Cathedral and Qoricancha Temple of the Sun. One traveler notes: "Take it easy on day one - even walking up stairs can leave you breathless." Remember to drink coca tea at your hotel to help with altitude. Stay overnight in Cusco.
- Day 2
Sacred Valley & Aguas Calientes
Leave early for the Sacred Valley. Visit Pisac's ruins and market before lunch in Urubamba. "The Sacred Valley views are incredible, but bring layers - morning temperatures can vary drastically," a reviewer suggests. Check out Ollantaytambo then catch the 1.75-hour train to Aguas Calientes. Pick an afternoon train to enjoy the scenery. Overnight in Aguas Calientes.
- Day 3
Machu Picchu
Take one of the first buses up to Machu Picchu (30 minutes). One traveler advises: "Get there by 7 AM - the morning fog lifting over the ruins is magical, and you'll have better photo opportunities before the masses arrive." Your ticket includes a 2.5-hour guided tour. Return to Cusco by train, arriving around 8-9 PM. Overnight in Cusco.
- Day 4
Maras & Moray
Explore Moray's circular terraces and the Maras salt mines. A recent visitor notes: "The salt mines are fascinating but extremely bright - bring sunglasses and a hat. The paths can be slippery, so wear shoes with good grip." Back in Cusco by mid-afternoon to explore the San Blas neighborhood. Overnight in Cusco.

- Day 1
Lima Arrival & City Tour
Land in Lima and head to the Miraflores district. "Everything was taken care of from the moment we landed - our guide Renzo met us with a sign and navigated the chaotic airport crowd." Arrive before noon to join the afternoon city tour. You'll see the pre-Inca Huaca Pucllana pyramid and San Francisco Monastery's catacombs. The day ends with a Pisco Sour tasting. Stay in Miraflores to be close to restaurants and ocean views.
- Day 2
Paracas, Ica & Huacachina
Start early at 4:30 AM for a full day of activities. Take a boat tour around Ballestas Islands to see penguins and sea lions. Next up is wine tasting in Ica, followed by Huacachina oasis for dune adventures. "The dune buggy ride was thrilling - our guide Jordan even helped film us sandboarding down the massive dunes!" You'll get back to Lima around 10-11 PM. Bring motion sickness medicine for the desert roads.
- Day 3
Lima to Cusco
Take a morning flight to Cusco (book before noon for the best views). Spend the day getting used to the high altitude (11,152 ft). Drink coca tea and keep meals light. Walk around San Pedro market for good people-watching and shopping. Meet your guide in the evening to discuss upcoming activities. Stay near Plaza de Armas for convenience.
- Day 4
Sacred Valley Tour
Spend the day exploring the Sacred Valley. Visit Chinchero for textile demonstrations and see the circular terraces at Moray. Check out the beautiful salt pans at Maras but wear good shoes as it can be slippery. End your day in Ollantaytambo and catch the train to Aguas Calientes. "Book window seats on the left side of the train for the best views of the Urubamba River."
- Day 5
Machu Picchu
Get up early (6 AM) for the first buses to Machu Picchu. "Our guide Wilbert had done this trek 2000 times but still showed incredible passion explaining the site's mysteries." Take the 30-minute bus up the mountain. Spend 2-3 hours touring with your guide before exploring on your own. Head back to Cusco in the afternoon. The total journey takes about 4 hours.
- Day 6
Rainbow Mountain
Leave at 4 AM for Rainbow Mountain. This is a tough hike starting at 14,000ft and going up to 16,400ft. "The altitude really hits you - having coca leaves and renting a horse for 80 soles saved our hike." Plan for 2-3 hours walking each way. You'll be back in Cusco by late afternoon. Pack warm clothes as mornings can be freezing.

What people love about 7 day Peru tours
- 7 Day Cusco Travel Package: Cusco, Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu, Humantay Lake, and Rainbow Mountain.
The tour was really great. Edy was great at communicating times for pickup and ensuring we were all ok. Carlos and Mehaw were amazing guides and their drivers. Our final day we went to Lake Humantay, a huge day. Don't know who our guide was as he never told us his name or the driver. In a group of 13 my friend and I were the only english speaking people so communication was really lacking. The guide would explain the walk and what to do in Spainish and then very briefly explain it in english to my friend and I. As you know it is a hard walk up to the Lake and I almost turned around before I got there, but the guide was just worried we were late, I didn't get any supportive words of encouragement or any help. After finally making it off the mountain the drive back to Cusco the guide didn't really speak to any of us. The drop off point was a Plaza about 1km from our accomodation, it was raining, cold and dark. Nobody said anything we just had to get off the bus and walk. So it was a shame the tour ended on a sour note, because our accomodation was great, the other tour guides were topnotch and felt really safe and secure. Would recommend this company again, just not the day hike tours.

- Private 7-day Cusco and Machu Picchu Package
I had an exceptional experience with Kantu Peru Tours. The agency demonstrated excellent organization and ensured that all my needs were met. They provided a well-structured exclusive 7 days package offered at the given price that was decent covering my needs. However, the highlight of my trip was my guide, Edison. He exceeded my expectations with his exceptional service. I received his undivided attention throughout, and he consistently provided me with valuable tips and suggestions during my stay. I highly recommend Kantu Peru Tours for your next visit to Peru, and if you're lucky enough to have Edison as your guide, rest assured that you'll be in capable hands.
