7 Days in Romania, incl. Brasov and Sibiu
Medieval treasures await across 12 Romanian destinations, from UNESCO-listed Viscri church to Gothic Corvin Castle. The route includes historic Sighisoara, traditional villages Magura and Pestera, and Astra Open Air Museum's 300 historic buildings.
- Day 1
Bucharest to Sibiu
Your Romanian adventure begins with a 4-hour drive from Bucharest to Sibiu. Get to the city by early afternoon to visit Romania's oldest museum, the Brukenthal, which opened in 1817. One traveler shared, "The historic center of Sibiu feels like stepping back in time—don't miss walking the Bridge of Lies at sunset." Try to photograph Sibiu's distinctive "eyes" (the unique window dormers) during golden hour for the best shots.
- Day 2
Hunedoara & Corvin Castle
Take a 2-hour drive to Hunedoara in the morning to see Corvin Castle, one of Europe's largest Gothic-Renaissance castles. Wear comfortable shoes since the castle's stone steps can be slippery. Head back to Sibiu for an evening walk through the medieval Lower Town, where you can spot Romania's first hospital (built 1292) and original pharmacy (1494).
- Day 3
Biertan & Sighisoara
Get to the Astra Open Air Museum right when it opens at 9 AM to avoid crowds. This 250-acre site shows traditional Romanian village life with over 300 historic buildings. Visit the UNESCO-listed fortified church in Biertan next, then spend your afternoon in Sighisoara, where Vlad the Impaler was born. You can climb 158 steps up the Clock Tower for great city views.
- Day 4
Viscri to Brasov
Start with Viscri's UNESCO-listed fortified church. The village, where Prince Charles owns property, offers a genuine look at rural Romanian life. Stop at Rupea Fortress on your way. Fun fact: its 60m well still has drinkable water. Get to Brasov by late afternoon to explore the medieval center. A recent visitor noted, "The Black Church looks most dramatic at dusk when its Gothic spires are lit up."
- Day 5
Castle Tour Day
- Day 6
Magura & Pestera Villages
Take a 3-4 hour walk (12 km) through these traditional mountain villages. You'll see the Bat Cave and local farms. One traveler mentioned: "The homemade cheese tasting at the oldest guesthouse in the national park was a highlight—bring cash to buy some to take home." The mountain paths can get muddy, so wear sturdy shoes.
- Day 7
Return to Bucharest
7 Day Romania Itinerary, incl. Bucharest and Transylvania
Covering 1,333km across 12 Romanian cities, this tour showcases 6 major castles including Bran and Peles. Guests enjoy 3-4* hotels and 2 special dinners. UNESCO site Sighisoara Citadel and Turda Salt Mine feature among the unique locations with expert English-speaking guides.
- Day 1
Bucharest & Snagov
Base yourself at Moxa Boutique Hotel in Bucharest. Visit Snagov Monastery which mirrors the architecture of Mount Athos monasteries in Greece. The monastery sits on a peaceful island in Snagov Lake. Visit before 3 PM to beat the crowds. Spend your evening exploring Bucharest's Old Town and sampling authentic Romanian food. As one visitor put it: "Cities and UNESCO sites are more beautiful than I expected."
- Day 2
Poienari & Sibiu (309 km)
Start early for Poienari Fortress. You'll need good walking shoes for the 1,400 steps up to Vlad the Impaler's mountain stronghold. The panoramic views make the climb worthwhile but avoid rainy days when the steps get dangerous. Drive to Sibiu for the afternoon and catch the iconic 'Liars Bridge' in sunset light. Book a hotel in the historic center for easy access to dinner spots.
- Day 3
Hunedoara to Turda (272 km)
Get to Corvinesti Castle when it opens at 9 AM. The morning light makes this Gothic castle look spectacular. Stop in Alba Iulia for lunch before heading to Turda. Groups of 4 or more can book the unique "Ritual of Killing of the Living Dead" dinner show. One traveler noted: "The speed of the tour, the area covered, everything was just perfect."
- Day 4
Turda to Bistrita (191 km)
- Day 5
Sighisoara (198 km)
- Day 6
Bran & Brasov (171 km)
- Day 7
Sinaia to Bucharest (192 km)
7 Day Romania Itinerary, incl. Bucharest and Transylvania
Romania's cultural heritage spans 6 major cities including UNESCO-listed Sighisoara and medieval Brasov. The route includes Snagov Monastery, Bran Castle, Turda Salt Mines, and Peles Castle's 160 rooms. Guests enjoy 6 breakfasts, 2 dinners, and Dracula's Wedding performance.
- Day 1
Bucharest & Snagov
Check into the centrally located Moxa Boutique Hotel in Bucharest. Take a 40-minute drive north to Snagov Monastery, built on a small island in Snagov Lake. This is said to be Vlad the Impaler's burial site. A recent visitor shared: "The monastery's architecture mirrors Mount Athos in Greece - it's incredibly peaceful early in the morning before tour groups arrive."
- Day 2
Sibiu via Curtea de Arges (280 km)
Drive 4.5 hours to Sibiu, stopping at the beautiful Curtea de Arges Monastery. Spend your evening walking through Sibiu's medieval Lower Town. The city was named Europe's Cultural Capital in 2007 thanks to its well-preserved German architecture. Stay in the historic center to be close to the main squares.
- Day 3
Hunedoara Castle & Turda Salt Mine (309 km)
See Romania's most impressive Gothic castle at Corvinesti Castle in Hunedoara. Next, visit the Turda Salt Mine in the afternoon. A visitor tells us: "The salt mine is otherworldly - bring a light jacket as it's cool underground year-round. The echo chamber creates amazing acoustics." You'll reach Cluj-Napoca late, around 10 PM.
- Day 4
Bistrita (144 km)
- Day 5
Sighisoara (143 km)
Visit UNESCO-listed Sighisoara, one of Europe's best-preserved medieval citadels and birthplace of Vlad the Impaler. The 14th-century Clock Tower offers great morning photos. Check out the small but interesting Torture Room museum below. A traveler notes: "Walking the cobblestone streets of Sighisoara at dusk is magical - but wear sturdy shoes as they get slippery when wet."
- Day 6
Bran & Brasov (171 km)
- Day 7
Return to Bucharest via Sinaia (192 km)

- Private Romania UNESCO 7-Day Tour
This was the best 7 day holiday, me and my husband ever experienced. Bogdan (owner of transylvania discovery tours) is the best professional, knowledgeable tour guide you can get, with extra fun facts and surprises. From the very beginning you can see and feel his love and passion for Romania. It penetrates straight to your heart, with the very well planned itinerary, to get you to see as many wonderful and best places as possible, which was explained to us everyday the day before, which also can be tailor made at your own pace. Yes, this tour includes quite a lot of travelling (i had to take travelling pills as i suffer from motion sickness ), but it was very relaxing with all the breath taking postcard scenery. We felt we had VIP treatment, felt extremely safe, both being in a foreign country and with his excellent driving. Bogdan checked everything was perfect, in every room we lodged, that we had enough food and drink, local liqueur and wine , privacy and smoking area. The local hosts are super, it was like saying goodbye to your mum every time. Transylvania discovery tours 's slogan is 'come as a guest and leave as a friend', i must say that's definitely the absolute truth!! Thank you once again Bogdan , definitely will see you again next year with all our family.
