      Kranjska Gora Region

      Drive 1.5 hours from Ljubljana to Kranjska Gora to begin exploring the Julian Alps. Visit Zelenci Nature Reserve early in the morning to see the emerald springs before crowds gather. Take the 15km hike to Planica Nordic Centre for amazing mountain views but pack proper hiking boots for the rocky terrain. Plan the Martuljek waterfall hike for early morning since summer often brings afternoon thunderstorms. The lower falls take just 30 minutes to reach while the upper 110m waterfall needs about 2 hours of more challenging climbing.

      Soča Valley

      Ljubljana

      Start in Slovenia's charming capital. The car-free city center is perfect for exploring on foot, especially in the early morning before the crowds. Take the funicular up to Ljubljana Castle for great views of the city, then enjoy a boat ride on the Ljubljanica River when the morning light is perfect for photos. Book your stay in the old town where you can walk everywhere, but make sure your room has AC since summer afternoons get quite warm.

      Eastern Slovenia

      Ljubljana Castle and Old Town

      Arrive mid-morning at Ljubljana Airport to pick up your rental car. After a quick 20-minute drive to your hotel to drop off bags, park at the Kongresni trg garage (€2.40/hour) near the Old Town. Take the funicular up to Ljubljana Castle after 2 PM when it's less crowded (€14 round trip). Pack a light jacket for the viewing tower, which can get chilly even in summer.

      Lake Bled Day Trip
