When is the best time to go hiking?

It really depends on where you want to go. If you're heading to Everest, plan your trip between March-May or October-November when skies are clear and views are best. For the Inca Trail, choose April through October to avoid the rainy season. Want to hike Turkey's Lycian Way? Spring months (April-May) or fall (September-October) offer the most pleasant temperatures. Just remember that each destination has its own sweet spot for hiking, so check local weather patterns before you book.

How does hiking fit in with exploring local culture?

You'll experience so much more than just trails and views. In Vietnam's Sapa region, you'll sleep in family homes and learn firsthand about local minority cultures. Walking the Inca Trail, your guides will share stories about ancient ruins as you pass them. Along Turkey's Lycian Way, one of our travelers said: "Stopping at small remote villages for lunch allowed us to experience rural Turkey authentically." These cultural connections often become the unexpected highlights of a trek.

How much hiking will I do each day?

Most days you'll hike between 4 and 8 hours, with some longer days when needed. Take the Mont Blanc trek - you'll typically walk 6-7 hours daily, covering 13-20 kilometers (8-12.4 miles). Summit days, like on Kilimanjaro, can stretch to 15 hours or more. One of our travelers shared: "The walks were varied, with enough challenge but not overwhelming. Our guide ensured regular breaks and kept a steady pace suitable for the whole group."

What about food during multi-day hikes?

You'll get plenty of good food to keep your energy up. For example, the Annapurna Circuit includes 13 breakfasts, 4 lunches and 3 dinners, all featuring local dishes. On the Inca Trail, trail cooks prepare 6 breakfasts, 4 lunches and 3 dinners for you. A recent traveler on the Lycian Way told us: "The food was consistently delicious with plenty of fresh local ingredients."

Where will I sleep during multi-day treks?

Your sleeping spots will vary night to night. The Inca Trail mixes it up with three nights in hotels and three nights camping. On the Everest Base Camp trek, you'll stay in simple but comfortable teahouse lodges. If you're hiking the Lycian Way, you might spend a night at places like the Montenegro Motel, which looks right over Butterfly Valley. Each trek combines different types of places to stay, giving you both a real outdoor experience and basic comforts.

How do treks handle high altitude?

Tour operators take altitude very seriously. For example, the Everest Base Camp trek plans two full days to adjust to the thin air - one at Namche Bazaar (11,286 feet) and another at Dingboche (14,470 feet). Your guides will watch for any altitude symptoms and adjust the pace if needed. What are the sleeping arrangements like on treks?

It varies by trek and location. Take the Salkantay Trek - you'll camp for three nights and spend one night in a hotel like the Qoya Palace in Aguas Calientes. For camping, you'll get foam sleeping mats and share a four-person tent with one other person.
