7 Day Nepal Itinerary, incl. Kathmandu and Poon Hill Trek
Sacred peaks guide the way from Pokhara to Poon Hill (3,210m) via Ulleri and Ghorepani (2,874m) across 7 days. Rhododendron forests and suspension bridges over Modi Khola river mark the path to Ghandruk's Gurung culture, with views of Dhaulagiri (8,167m).
- Day 1
Kathmandu to Pokhara
Take a 6-7 hour bus ride from Kathmandu to Pokhara. Book an early morning departure to arrive by late afternoon so you can explore the lakeside area. One traveler shared: "The scenery along Phewa Lake at sunset with the Annapurna range in the background was absolutely magical - definitely arrive with enough daylight to enjoy this." If you prefer not to spend hours on a bus you can opt for a quick 30-minute flight instead.
- Day 2
Nayapul to Ulleri
Drive 1.5 hours to Nayapul (1,070m) to start your trek. The path winds through terraced farmland before climbing 3,500 stone steps to Ulleri (2,073m). Keep your pack light for this challenging section. Experienced hikers advise: "Take the steps slow and steady, use trekking poles for stability, and stay hydrated. The teahouses along the way are perfect rest stops."
- Day 3
Ulleri to Ghorepani
The 5-6 hour trek to Ghorepani (2,856m) takes you through beautiful rhododendron forests. Spring visitors will see them in full bloom. The trail gets steeper as you gain elevation so take your time. A trekker notes: "The forest sections provide welcome shade, but bring layers - temperatures can drop significantly as you climb higher."
- Day 4
Poon Hill Sunrise and Trek to Tadapani
Start early at 4:30 AM for the 45-minute climb to Poon Hill (3,210m). You'll need a headlamp and warm clothes as pre-dawn temperatures often hover near freezing. Your early start pays off with sunrise views of the Annapurna range including Dhaulagiri (8,167m) and Machapuchare. One hiker recalls: "Getting up early was tough but watching the first light hit those peaks made it all worthwhile." Head back for breakfast then continue to Tadapani through forest trails.
- Day 5
Tadapani to Ghandruk
- Day 6
Ghandruk to Pokhara
Walk down the Modi Khola river valley to Birethanti before driving back to Pokhara. After five nights in teahouses your hotel bed will feel luxurious. Many trekkers recommend getting a massage at the Seeing Hands Clinic run by blind masseurs.
- Day 7
Return to Kathmandu
The 6-7 hour journey back to Kathmandu gives you time to reflect on your trek. Most groups stay in the Thamel district which is perfect for buying souvenirs and enjoying a traditional Nepali dinner.
Langtang Short Trek
A 7-day trek ascends from Syabrubesi through Lama Hotel to Kyanjin Gompa at 4000m. The route winds past ancient mani walls and yak pastures, offering sunrise views of four peaks above 5500m from Kyanjin Ri summit.

- Day 1

Your journey starts with a 5-6 hour drive from Pokhara to Ghandruk bus stop. From there you'll hike to Ghandruk village, the largest Gurung settlement in the area. You'll get your first look at Annapurna South, Gangapurna and the distinctive Fishtail Mountain. It's best to pack light layers since mornings are cool but you'll warm up in the afternoon.
- Day 2
Ghandruk to Chhomrong (2,100m)
The day begins with a steep descent into the Ghurjung River valley before climbing uphill to Chhomrong. The trail can get slippery in wet weather so bring trekking poles.
