3 Day Kangaroo Island Itinerary, incl. Adelaide and Seal Bay
A three-day South Australian adventure awaits, with two nights camping beneath the starlit sky. The packed schedule takes you through Seal Bay, Flinders Chase National Park, while participating in vital conservation work at various sites.
- Day 1
Adelaide to Kangaroo Island
Take the 6:45 AM SeaLink bus from Adelaide CBD to Cape Jervis. Get there 15 minutes early because the bus won't wait. The ferry ride to Penneshaw takes 45 minutes. Look out for dolphins along the way and have your camera ready. Your first stop is Pennington Bay where you'll see incredible coastal views and surf breaks which look their best in the morning light. Stop for lunch before tackling the 500 steps at Prospect Hill lookout. Wear good shoes since the steps can get slippery. In the afternoon visit the island's Ligurian bee sanctuary. It's the world's only pure population of these bees. Next up is Dudley Wines. Visit the winery late afternoon if you can. The clifftop deck has the best sunset views on the east coast. Spend the night at the "Happiness" campsite near Antechamber Bay. The swag camping is basic but you'll have private beach access and amazing stargazing. Pack warm clothes because nights get cold even in summer.
- Day 2
Wildlife and Natural Wonders
Get to Seal Bay Conservation Park by 9 AM to beat the crowds. You'll spend 45 minutes with a guide watching endangered Australian sea lions. Bring a zoom lens to capture great photos of the pups playing on the beach. Head to Flinders Chase National Park in the afternoon. Visit Admirals Arch at low tide to see New Zealand fur seals sunbathing on the rocks. Save the Remarkable Rocks for sunset when the orange lichen lights up against the granite. Watch out for strong winds on the path.
- Day 3
Conservation and Coast
Start with a morning walk near American River where you might spot glossy black cockatoos. Next visit Stokes Bay which was named Australia's best beach in 2023. You'll need to go through a natural rock tunnel to reach it but the beautiful swimming spot is worth it. Spend your afternoon helping with conservation work. Activities change with the seasons from collecting native seeds to helping injured wildlife. The last ferry leaves Penneshaw at 7:30 PM getting you back to Adelaide around 11 PM. Book a place to stay in Adelaide. You'll need the rest after such a full day.
4 Days in South Australia Wine Country, incl. Barossa Valley and Clare Valley
Pedal through South Australia's premier wine regions over four memorable days, staying three nights in luxurious lodgings. Daily 35km rides along the Riesling Trail and Barossa paths are perfectly paired with winery stops and gourmet included meals.
- Day 1
Adelaide Arrival
- Day 2
Barossa Valley Cycling (35km)
Your day starts with an early transfer to the Barossa Valley. You'll find off-road paved trails with minimal traffic and gentle slopes that work well for casual riders. The route takes you to famous wineries like Penfolds and Jacob's Creek. Stop at Maggie Beer's Farm Shop after 2pm when the tour buses are usually gone. Space out your cellar door visits since it takes 15-30 minutes to bike between wineries. Bring extra water - the Barossa gets quite hot from December to February. You'll spend the night in Tanunda which sits right in the middle of wine country.
- Days 3-4
Clare Valley & Riesling Trail (35km per day)
The Riesling Trail is a highlight of the Clare Valley. This limestone path on an old railway line stays relatively flat and is easy to follow. As you ride between Auburn and Clare you'll pass through small towns and stop at excellent wineries known for their Riesling and Shiraz. Bring extra layers since Clare Valley mornings can be cool even in summer. The trail is in good shape but gets dusty so pack your sunglasses. If you're not a regular cyclist consider an e-bike - those small hills can feel bigger after a few wine tastings.
3 Day Clare Valley Itinerary, incl. Auburn and Clare
Wine country beckons on this three-day escape: rest in Auburn on night one, cycle 35km to Clare on the second day, before a 30km return to Auburn on the final stretch. Two nights' accommodation and full support services included.
- Day 1
Adelaide to Auburn
Drive from Adelaide to Auburn (2 hours north). It's best to leave Adelaide by 9 AM to beat traffic and have a relaxed afternoon ahead. Auburn is your gateway to the Clare Valley and where the Riesling Trail begins. Get settled at your accommodation and enjoy dinner at the Rising Sun Hotel, a beautiful heritage pub from 1850.
- Day 2
Auburn to Clare (35km cycling)
Start your ride after breakfast on the Riesling Trail. This old railway line has a gentle slope that's perfect for casual riders. The packed gravel path is easy to navigate, even if you're new to cycling. Visit Grosset Wines first (open weekends only - book in advance), then stop at Annie's Lane for a morning tasting. Make sure you get to Skillogalee Winery by 12:30 PM for your two-course lunch with beautiful valley views. Spend your afternoon cycling through vineyards to Clare township. You'll cover about 35km total.
- Day 3
Clare to Auburn (30km cycling)
Take a different path back south with new winery stops along the way. Stop for lunch at O'Leary Walker Wines, where you'll get some of the best views in the valley. Bring extra water, especially in summer when it can get above 35°C (95°F). While the trail has good shade, you'll still need sun protection. Your ride ends back in Auburn where you can catch your transport to Adelaide.
