7 Day Spain Itinerary, incl. Madrid and Seville
The cultural riches of Southern Spain unfold over 7 days, from Cordoba's Great Mosque to Granada's Alhambra palace. A Seat Ibiza takes you 1,390km, with stays at premium hotels like Hotel Ayre Cordoba and Silken Al-Andalus Seville. Daily breakfast included.
- Days 1-2
Madrid
Plan to arrive at Madrid Airport before noon to avoid traffic and get settled. Book your hotel near Gran Via or Plaza Mayor for easy access to attractions. A recent visitor advised: "The hotels were far from the city center, so I'd recommend booking accommodation near Gran Via or Plaza Mayor for easier access to attractions." Visit the Royal Palace at 9 AM on day two to avoid tour groups. You'll find 3,000 rooms filled with baroque and neoclassical architecture. In the afternoon, visit the Reina Sofia Museum to see Picasso's Guernica. Consider getting a Madrid Card if you plan to visit multiple museums. Leave your car parked these days since Madrid's public transport works well.
- Day 3
Madrid to Córdoba (400km, 4 hours)
- Day 4
Córdoba to Granada (210km, 2.15 hours)
- Day 5
Granada to Seville (250km, 2.45 hours)
- Day 6
Seville
Spend today in Seville's historic center. Get to the Real Alcázar 30 minutes before it opens at 9:30 AM to avoid lines. A previous visitor noted: "The Maria Luisa Park was a peaceful retreat from the afternoon heat - bring water and plan indoor activities like the Cathedral visit during peak sun hours."
- Day 7
Seville to Madrid (530km, 5 hours)
6 Days in Southern Spain & Portugal, incl. Madrid and Lisbon
Twelve cities reveal themselves across Southern Spain, from Madrid's capital to Lisbon's coast. Visit UNESCO-listed La Mezquita in Córdoba, admire Granada's Alhambra Palace, and tour Jerez's sherry bodegas. Local culture comes alive through olive oil tastings, flamenco shows, and authentic tapas in Seville's historic center.
- Day 1
Madrid to Córdoba via Toledo
Leave Madrid at 8:30 AM from Hotel Porcel Ganivet for a one-hour drive to Toledo. Spend your morning walking through Toledo's Jewish Quarter and Gothic Cathedral. "The cobbled streets of Toledo's old town are quite steep - wear comfortable shoes and bring water, especially in summer months." After lunch head south through Don Quixote country to Córdoba. The city really comes to life after sunset when locals fill the historic center for tapas.
- Day 2
Córdoba to Granada
Get to La Mezquita by 8:30 AM before the crowds arrive. You'll see stunning Islamic architecture with rows of striped arches throughout this unique mosque-cathedral. The drive to Granada takes about 2.5 hours through Jaén's olive groves. Take a break to see the hilltop Fortaleza de la Mota fortress before reaching Granada. Try dinner in the Albayzín area for great local food and views of the Alhambra.
- Day 3
Granada & Alhambra
Book your Alhambra tickets well in advance as they sell out quickly. "Visiting the Alhambra in summer can be intensely hot - go early and bring a water bottle. The audioguide is essential for understanding the rich history." Later check out the unusual cave homes in Guadix and stop for photos in the Sierra Nevada mountains.
- Day 4
Granada to Seville via Ronda
- Day 5
Seville
Use the full day to see Seville's main sites. Start at the Cathedral and Giralda tower at 10:30 AM opening to avoid lines. You can also take an optional trip to Jerez for sherry tasting. A recent visitor noted: "The Plaza de España is magical at sunset - time your visit for late afternoon when the light makes the tiles glow and street performers come out."
- Day 6
Seville to Lisbon
7 Day Spain Itinerary, incl. Madrid and Andalusia
Ten destinations across Southern Spain unfold over 7 days for around $800. Madrid's Plaza Mayor launches your journey through Granada's Albaicín, Málaga's Picasso Museum, and Ronda's dramatic cliffs. Seville's Giralda and Córdoba's Mosque-Cathedral come alive with expert English-speaking guides.
- Days 1-2
Madrid
Start in Spain's lively capital. Visit Plaza Mayor in the evening and explore La Latina neighborhood for excellent tapas. Plan to eat after 8 PM when locals fill the restaurants - any earlier and you'll mostly see other tourists. The next morning, visit central Madrid's main sites like Retiro Park and the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. "The boat rides on Retiro Park's lake offer a peaceful break from the city bustle - go before noon to avoid the crowds."
- Day 3
Granada
Take the morning train through La Mancha to Granada (4.5 hours). Explore the beautiful Albaicín quarter and walk up to Mirador de San Nicolás for amazing sunset views of the Alhambra. The walks in Albaicín are quite steep - bring water and save uphill climbs for morning or evening, especially during summer.
- Day 4
Costa del Sol & Ronda
Drive through Málaga and the Costa del Sol to reach Ronda, perched dramatically above a deep gorge. The trip from Granada takes about 2.5 hours. "The winding mountain roads to Ronda can be dizzying but the views of the El Tajo gorge make it worthwhile. Visit the bullring early before tour buses arrive."
- Day 5
Seville
- Day 6
Córdoba & Return to Madrid
Start at Córdoba's Mezquita, an incredible mosque-cathedral that shows off the city's Islamic history. Your guide will help you understand this vast building. Stop at Consuegra's windmills on the way back to Madrid. Try to arrive at the Mezquita when it opens at 8:30 AM to enjoy the quiet before other visitors arrive.

What people love about 7 Day Southern Spain Tours
- 6-Day The South of Spain and the Treasures of Andalucia Small-Group Tour from Madrid
Our small tour ( 3 travellers) with our very knowledgeable guide Violeta was wonderful. We had very comfortable touring van with great driver Pedro and excellent accomodation. Although a fast paced program with some long driving days and lots of walking - we had sufficient time to enjoy key cities and highlights notably the Mezquita in Córdoba and the Alhambra in Granada- as well as plenty of stop offs on side routes - the windmills of Castilla - La Manchia, the Fortaleza de la Mota ( amazing) and the unexpected but fun trek in El Torcal de Antequera with its unique pre historic limestone formations and spectacular mountain scenery on the way up. We took optional tours for Phillip Stark’s work in progress organic olive farm/ restaurant/ tasting room which when completed (ETA end 2023) am sure will be a must see .Less so for us was the expensive tour ( 40 Euros !) of Tio Pepe factory and compound . After the long drive the day before this was also a long sidetrip out of Seville with lots of traffic coming back into the city - and in hindsight we would have preferred to use the time exploring Seville.Violeta found a very good Flamenco show for us to book in Seville. You can also see for a small donation authentic dancers and singers at Plaza de Espagna. Overall a wonderful and memorable tour.
- Madrid, Andalucia y Toledo
Overall the tour was fine. The hotels were all very good and generally in good locations. It was your typical somewhat of a "forced march" tour, but there is a lot of ground to cover so you expect that. The tour bus was reasonably comfortable. The tour staff and drivers were friendly, welcoming, and attentive to people's needs along the way with frequent stops for comfort needs. My only complaint was the tour guide at the Alhambra who spent to much time talking about what tourists can do in Granada using up the time available for the tour and actually, as best I can determine, skipped a very important part of the Alhambra on the tour, the Patio de Los Leones, one of the most beautiful parts of the complex. I have been to the Alhambra before and from my own research I know this was passed over on the tour. A very great disappointment. This was not the fault of the tour operator as the guide there was not their staff. However, since this was for me the primary reason to take this particular tour program, it did not then meet my expectations for the tour as presented. The time in the other cities and what was covered was perfectly fine. That having been said I would still be fine recommending this tour to first time travelers. Just be prepared for long bus rides and early departures needed to cover the ground.
- 5-Day Tour Andalusia & Toledo from Madrid
Overall, we were extremely pleased with our Julia Travel tour. If you don't have a lot of time and you're budget wise, I can't imagine a better tour for seeing a large percentage of the best of Spain!
