27 Days in Indochina, incl. Hanoi and Siem Reap
A 27-day grand tour through Indochina unfolds from Hanoi to Luang Prabang. Luxuriate aboard Bhaya Soul in Halong Bay and Scenic Spirit on the Mekong, while visiting ancient temples and participating in private temple dinners and traditional ceremonies across three countries.
- Days 1-2
Hanoi
Begin in Vietnam's capital. Visit the Temple of Literature before 9am to beat the tour buses. Spend your afternoon exploring the Old Quarter when the narrow streets fill with local life. "The egg coffee at Cafe Giang was unforgettable - thick, sweet and uniquely Vietnamese. Go early around 3pm to avoid the evening crowds."
- Days 3-5
Halong Bay
The drive to Halong Bay takes 4 hours. Leave Hanoi by 8am to avoid traffic. Spend 2 nights on a luxury junk boat surrounded by limestone karsts. Early morning offers the best photos when mist wraps around the islands. You can kayak through caves and visit floating villages in the quieter Bai Tu Long Bay area. Bring motion sickness tablets for choppy waters between islands.
- Days 6-8
Hoi An
Fly to Hoi An but plan extra time at Hanoi airport for potential delays. The Ancient Town looks its best at dusk as lanterns light up the streets. Book cooking classes early since morning market tours get full quickly. "Having clothes custom-made takes at least 2 fittings over 24 hours. Don't wait until your last day."
- Days 9-10
Hue
- Days 11-12
Ho Chi Minh City
- Days 13-19
Mekong River Cruise & Cambodia
Take a luxury river cruise down the Mekong. You'll travel from Vietnam through rural Cambodia stopping at floating markets and villages. Bring loose modest clothes for temple visits. Visit the Killing Fields in Phnom Penh early before the heat builds.
- Days 20-21
Siem Reap
Use this as your base for the Angkor temples. See Angkor Wat at sunrise (leave by 5am) then visit Ta Prohm and Bayon when crowds thin out. "Hire a tuk-tuk for the day rather than a car - the breeze helps with the heat and you can easily hop on/off between temples."
- Days 22-27
Laos
End your trip in Luang Prabang. Watch the alms-giving ceremony at dawn but stay respectful and keep your distance from monks. Visit Kuang Si Falls before tour buses arrive. Finish in Vientiane where you'll find local handicrafts at the night market for souvenirs.
27 Days in Indochina, incl. Luang Prabang and Angkor Wat
The 27-day expedition through Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia features UNESCO sites like Luang Prabang and Angkor Wat. Ride the new Boten-Vientiane Railway, take overnight trains in Vietnam, and enjoy Mekong Delta homestays. Watch sunrise at Pre Rup temple and sunset cruise on Tonle Sap Lake.
- Days 1-2
Vientiane, Laos
- Days 3-4
Vang Vieng
Take the new Boten-Vientiane Railway (2 hours) through the countryside. This adventure hub offers stunning views of limestone karsts. "The optional hot air balloon flight over Vang Vieng was a highlight of my entire trip." Go kayaking on the Nam Song River or explore the 2km cave network. Bring proper shoes for the caves.

26 Days in Indochina, incl. Ho Chi Minh City and Phnom Penh
A magnificent 26-day tour through Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam encompasses 17 unique destinations. Sail through Halong Bay, visit Luang Prabang's temples, and marvel at Angkor's ancient ruins, while staying at carefully selected hotels and enjoying immersive cultural encounters.
- Days 1-3
Ho Chi Minh City & Cu Chi
Arrive in Ho Chi Minh City and take your first day to rest and adjust. Visit the War Remnants Museum first thing in the morning before crowds fill the space. Later explore the Notre Dame Cathedral. Plan your Cu Chi Tunnels visit for early morning on day 3 to avoid peak heat. Note that the 100m tunnel walk isn't for everyone - if you don't like tight spaces you can still see plenty from ground level.
- Days 4-5
Mekong Delta
Drive to Vinh Long (3 hours) and take a boat trip on the Co Chien River. You'll see local brick factories and get a glimpse of daily river life. When in Can Tho get up early at 5:30 AM to see the Cai Rang floating market. The best photos happen right after sunrise as morning light hits the produce-laden boats.
- Days 6-8
Hoi An & My Son
Take a 90-minute flight to Da Nang followed by a 30-minute transfer to Hoi An. "The basket boat ride on Thu Bon river was a highlight—but wear clothes you don't mind getting wet!" says one traveler. Visit My Son sanctuary early before tour buses arrive. Bring lots of water and sun protection as it gets very hot by midday.
- Days 9-10
Hue
- Days 11-13
Hanoi & Sapa
See locals doing tai chi around Hoan Kiem Lake during an early morning walk through Hanoi's Old Quarter. Take the night train to Sapa.
