10 Day Spain Itinerary, incl. Madrid and Barcelona
Spanish heritage comes alive through 8 cities, covering 1,200km from Madrid to Barcelona and back. Visit UNESCO sites including Córdoba's Mosque-Cathedral and Granada's Alhambra. Stay at selected hotels like Rafael Atocha Madrid and Melia Lebreros Seville.
- Days 1-2
Madrid
Start in Madrid in the afternoon to skip the morning rush hour traffic from the airport. Take an evening illuminations tour to see Plaza Mayor and other landmarks. A helpful tip from a visitor: "Get to Plaza Mayor before 8 PM - the tapas bars fill up quickly and you'll have trouble finding a seat after that." Visit Puerta del Sol and the Cibeles Fountain early in the morning before the tour buses arrive.
- Day 3
Mérida & Seville
Take the 4-hour bus ride from Madrid to Mérida to see its Roman Theater. One visitor notes: "The Roman ruins were incredible, but bring water and a hat - there's very little shade." Head to Seville in the afternoon. Book your dinner spots ahead of time since the best tapas bars in Santa Cruz fill up fast.
- Day 4
Seville
Start at the Cathedral when it opens at 8:30 AM to avoid crowds. You can take a boat trip on the Guadalquivir River, but one visitor suggests: "The river cruise is quite basic - consider using that time to explore more of the Santa Cruz quarter instead." For the evening flamenco show, get there 30 minutes early for good seats near the stage.
- Day 5
Córdoba & Granada
- Day 6
Granada to Valencia
- Days 7-8
Valencia to Barcelona
See Valencia's old town and City of Arts and Sciences in the morning before driving 4 hours to Barcelona. Plan your Barcelona visit carefully. One traveler warns: "You must book Sagrada Familia tickets weeks in advance. Don't expect to just walk up and get in." Start your full day at Park Güell before the crowds arrive.
- Days 9-10
Zaragoza & Madrid
10 Day Spain Itinerary, incl. Madrid and Santiago de Compostela
The ancient Camino paths lead from Madrid to Santiago de Compostela, covering 100km through 8 distinct locations. Walk 20-25km daily from Sarria through Portomarin, Palas de Rei, and Melide, finishing at the historic cathedral.
- Days 1-2
Madrid
Spend two days discovering Spain's capital. Visit Plaza Mayor early to beat the crowds, then head to the Prado Museum. Book your tickets online to skip the lines. A regular visitor suggests: "Visit the Real Jardín Botánico in the afternoon when the light is perfect for photos." Spend your evenings in Malasaña, where you'll find excellent tapas bars.
- Day 3
Madrid to Sarria
- Day 4
Sarria to Portomarín (22km)
- Day 5
Portomarín to Palas de Rei (25km)
- Day 6
Palas de Rei to Melide (15km)
- Days 7-8
Melide to Arzúa to Amenal
- Days 9-10
Amenal to Santiago de Compostela
The walk into Santiago often moves pilgrims deeply. Plan to arrive for the noon pilgrim mass at the cathedral. A fellow pilgrim notes: "Getting your Compostela certificate feels like such an achievement. Don't forget to get your final stamps!"
10 Day Northern Spain Itinerary, incl. Barcelona and Santiago de Compostela
Northern Spain unfolds from Barcelona to Santiago de Compostela. Highlights include La Boqueria Market, Laguardia's wine caves, San Sebastian's cooking classes, and Picos de Europa National Park, with 9 nights in local hotels.
- Days 1-2
Barcelona
Explore the Gothic Quarter's narrow medieval streets and excellent tapas bars. Visit La Boqueria Market early (before 8:30 AM) to avoid crowds and shop alongside locals. Book a paella cooking class well in advance if visiting during peak season. Want to avoid the crowds? Skip La Rambla during midday and visit early morning or evening instead.
- Day 3
Logrono
Take a 3.5-hour train to La Rioja's capital. The medieval center buzzes with activity at night along Calle del Laurel with its 60+ tapas bars. Visit the local market in the morning for regional specialties. Remember to pack light since you'll need to carry your luggage up and down train station stairs.
- Days 4-5
San Sebastian
A 2-hour bus ride takes you to this coastal food haven. Take a pintxos tour through Old Town's traditional bars near Plaza de la Constitución. Learn Basque cooking in a morning class. Bring good walking shoes as streets can be slippery when wet. Most traditional restaurants close between lunch and dinner (3-8 PM).
- Day 6
Bilbao & Picos de Europa
- Days 7-8
Oviedo
- Days 9-10
Santiago de Compostela
What people love about 10 day Spain tours
- Discovery of Spain - 10 days
Well organized. Not actually ran by Click Tours, but contracted through MapaPlus. They have a unique style of running tours, in that you will not be with the same group the entire 10 days. Smaller groups will join and leave your group depending on which "itinerary" they booked. Same with the tour guide. Hotels were very nice (superior package worth it), centrally located with great breakfasts. Premium package included good meals that showcased Spanish cuisine and some additional excursions, though the river cruise in Sevilla was lame. (Tip: Leave from Barcelona if you can, cause the final day was really just traveling back to Madrid. Use taxis during your free time to get around, drivers are honest and fares are cheap.) Have to deduct a star for the first few days where we were the only English speakers, and the guides skimped on translation. Our guide for the latter half (Alejandra) was good. Positive experience overall. Grateful to have been able to see Spain, especially during the pandemic.
- Northern Spain Real Food Adventure
Above my expectations, really good!
- Moorish Andalucia
Our guide was very good.the trip as organized was very full onz
