The tour guides were very informative, but at times it felt more like school than a vacation. Accommodation were nice and the food was good. All the early morning activities took a toll and we came back from the vacation more exhausted than before we started it. Custom officer in Egypt are unfriendly and cold. I was very impressed by the amount of spectacular sights and experiences that are stuffed into this itinerary, though you must be prepared to keep up! We saw EVERYTHING of note. The highlight for me was Ashraf, the Egyptologist we had onboard our ship, the Nile Cruiser Radamis I. While not the newest boat on the Nile, it was clean, clean, clean, and had very comfortable beds (though we weren't normally in our room for very long). Relaxing with tea on the deck, the countryside floating by, remarkable sight-seeing, who could ask for more? Food was carefully prepared and extremely FRESH. Having eaten all the uncooked produce (lettuce, etc.) with abandon, and having absolutely no tummy problems, I can attest to the sanitary conditions regarding food handling. The Radamis I crew was very friendly and helpful. The highlight of the tour for me was the extremely personable tour guide, Ashraf. Not only was he undeniably an expert in Egyptology, but he was extremely responsive to our comfort and safety. He provided his room number on the ship and invited us to call him, should we need anything. Ashraf kept us comfortable by trying to find the shady locations from which he could share his knowledge regarding the beautiful temples, carvings, and geography, but also making sure we had time for breaks and snacks, as needed. Of course, I had been on a cruise before, so I knew how absolutely fortunate we were to have such a caring and intelligent Egyptologist, as Ashraf. We had ages from 8-80s on our tour group and Ashraf made it a safe and enjoyable experience for all! I cannot complain about the level of comfort we were provided for such a reasonable price and wonder why some customers would expect 5 star accommodation, unless they had paid more for an upgrade. Our accommodations were more than acceptable, about the same as a mid-range hotel in the US (bring your own washcloth), with adjustable Air Conditioning, and folded towel animals to amuse us upon our return from shore. A fulfilling and perspective-altering experience to marvel at a culture from over 5 millennia ago. I did not know what to expect of the boat we were to sail on, but boarding the Nile boat, I was overwhelmed with giddiness and absolute delight.The cabins were comfortable and absolutely lush. The staff were incredible and went out of their way to help when needed, always smiling and humorous. Personally, I loved the food, and I never, at any time, heard anyone complain. Sitting on the top deck, enveloped in one of those serene moments, watching the world slowly drift by will always remain with me. The group I was in was phenomenal. Each member had an incredible story to tell. We laughed, sang, and danced the whole trip. At no time was there criticism of any member. On that trip, we were one big family, and the person who gelled us together was the indomitable Ahmed Elkallaf, our Nile cruise guide. How do I explain Ahmed? Let me just throw a few words into the pot: highly intelligent, passionate, dedicated, knowledgeable, funny, a friend, warm, and kind. For one, I absorbed his history of Egyptian culture like a sponge. Do you remember listening to a teacher tell a story, and at that moment you began to dream? You were transported into the heart of the story; that is what it was like for me, hearing what Ahmed told us. I imagined being there 4000 years ago; he was that good. Okay, there were many temples and monuments to visit, but I could not get enough. Let me add some words: breathtaking, sensational, spine-tingling, and, at the top of my list, wondrous. I could go on, but let me close now.
