- CRCliff· March 5th, 2020Very interesting tour but there was a definate lack of organisation on behalf of On The Go. The tour guide was first class and very knowledgeable. However, the local manager was disorganised and did nothing more than the basics, he did not make himself known in the hotel lobby for the inital induction meeting and then bluntly insisted we pay him a tip at the end of the tour even though he did nothing for us personally. Other members of our group felt the same as they mentioned how he had asked them also. On The Go stated that they do not offer the visit to Edfu Temple due to animal welfare concerns which we totaly agree with. However, they offer nothing to replace this visit. They could try harder. Although we contributed to a tipping kitty there were lots of other 'extras' charged which is inconvieniant to have to pay locally as in Egypt you can only draw 3000 Egyptian Pounds a day from a ATM so you are forever looking for a machine. The moment we landed we were taken care of- our rep Said took care of our docs and helped us thru customs, helped us get our luggage and walked us to a private car which took us to the hotel where we were met by another local rep named Emil who got us checked in. Emil was great! A go to person for any question or help we needed while in Cairo. The next day we met our guide Sal- what an amazing guy! We were so lucky to have him! A trained and working Egyptologist/Archeologist - he was a wealth of knowledge and information and was the star of the tour! All the places we visited were amazing, beautiful and awesome! All the hotels we stayed at were lovely and comfortable. The food was fantastic at the hotels and on the cruise boat! We really loved the cruise part- lovely boat, great room, everyone was so lovely and helpful! To be honest we hated to see it end! We were lucky to have a small group of 16 which was perfect size and our tour mates were such a lovely mix of folks! I think the only negative I could see is that for me, I would have loved more time to explore more thoroughly some of the places we visited but that is the nature of the beast with tours. We did have time to explore but I don’t think I’d ever have enough time because I love Egypt so much. This was a dream of a lifetime for me since I was a child and it did not disappoint. I will be back. But all the fear melted away when we were greeted by Mahmoud (excuse the spelling) at the airport. He literally took us by the hand and took care of everything. It only got better when Kalel took over and brought us through ancient Egypt. He was a wealth of information and even took care of me when I contracted the "Egyptian Flu" My only complaint were the over zealous vendors that were quite annoying while trying to shop, though I know it is part of their culture.
