What people love about Europe Tours in March
- Semi-Private Balkans Tour; From Athens to Sarajevo or Belgrade
Albania - Hidden Treasure Our tour was tailored to us and since we'd done N. Macedonia on a prior trip, our 2 weeks were spent in Albania, Montenegro and Kosovo. Choose Balkans Tour Company did a great job of putting together an interesting itinerary for us. We saw Albania from north to south - stunningly beautiful and full of history - plus we saw the best bits of Montenegro and Kosovo. Our guide, Sokol was knowledgeable, personable, flexible and totally professional. Add to that that he was s superb driver (a MUST for the area) and you have a combination for a delightful experience. The hotels and restaurants that the company chose were super and with our lack of understanding of the languages in the area, much appreciated. While many restaurants had menus in English, Sokol helped us navigate the menus and choose traditional foods, for example. We highly recommend Choose Balkans - the staff couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful; their English is excellent and their services outstanding.
- Small Group Tour: 7 Balkan Countries from Athens to Dubrovnik or Split
We were impressed with the punctuality and organization of our tour guides. You made our trip so much better than it would have been on our own. We really appreciated the tour guide too. They were informative and helpful in every instance.. Thank you
- Balkan Experience – seven countries in two weeks - SMALL GROUP
This was a great tour. Our guide was very professional and shared a great deal about each country in terms of both culture and history. We visited churches, monasteries, temples and mosques, Bran Castle, the transfagarasan road, caves, the bear sanctuary in Kosovo, the Mother Theresa memorial building, fortresses, and many other significant sites. We did a walking your of all the cities we visited. I'm the late afternoon, we generally had free time to do some exploring on our own. Each night can't with a suggestion of a good restaurant and they were excellent places to eat. The hotels were nice and comfortable. Our guide was very amenable to any changes we asked of him. The whole experience was one we will treasure. Highly recommended!!!
What our customers ask about Europe Tours in March 2026
What are the best destinations to visit in Europe during March?
March presents a sweet spot for European travel with moderate temperatures and fewer tourists. Cities like Rome and Venice allow easier access to attractions such as St. Mark's Basilica and the Colosseum. The Swiss Alps particularly around Interlaken and Lucerne remain prime for winter sports. Paris shows its first signs of spring while Amsterdam prepares for tulip season. A TourRadar traveler noted "March was perfect for exploring cities like Munich and Vienna without the summer crowds while still enjoying snow in the Alps."
Are major tourist attractions less crowded in March compared to peak season?
During March tourist numbers drop significantly at Europe's major sites. Wait times at attractions like the Eiffel Tower Vatican Museums and Colosseum decrease notably. Hotels in prime locations including the Hotel Mercure in Paris and Hotel Artemide in Rome offer better availability and rates. According to a TourRadar traveler: "March was perfect for visiting major sites - we didn't have to wait in long lines and could really enjoy places like the Louvre without the summer crowds."
What unique experiences are available in Europe during March?
March delivers distinct seasonal experiences throughout Europe. Visitors can catch the final ski runs in the Swiss Alps from bases like the Alpenrose Hotel & Gardens or watch Paris's Luxembourg Gardens come to life. Venice's streets and canals open up without summer's usual crush of tourists. The Sargan Eight railroad in Serbia and Budapest's thermal baths gain special appeal during this time. The Rhine Valley's wine regions and Amsterdam's early tulip displays add further options for travelers.
What is the weather like in Europe during March?
European weather patterns vary by region in March. Central Europe typically sees temperatures of 5-12°C (41-54°F) with periodic rain. Vienna averages around 8°C (46°F) while Mediterranean cities like Venice enjoy milder conditions around 12-15°C (54-59°F). A TourRadar traveler noted "Pack layers as the weather can be unpredictable in March especially in cities like Prague and Berlin."
What are the unique events and festivals to experience in Europe during March?
March's cultural calendar features notable events across Europe. Early March visitors might catch Venice's Carnival finale while Paris hosts Art Paris at the Grand Palais. Hotel rates in March typically run 20-40% below peak summer prices. Luxury properties like Vienna's Hotel Sacher and Prague's Art Deco Imperial Hotel reduce their rates significantly.
