  • Days 1-2

    Istanbul Orientation

    Start your Turkey adventure in vibrant Istanbul. Check in and meet your group at 8pm. On day two visit the Blue Mosque early. "Getting there before 9am meant we had the courtyard almost to ourselves." Explore the historic Hippodrome, Hagia Sophia and Topkapi Palace. Book your Hagia Sophia tickets for the afternoon to avoid morning crowds.

    
  • Day 3

    Gallipoli Peninsula

    Take a 5-hour drive to the WWI battlefields of Gallipoli. Visit ANZAC Cove and war memorials before crossing the Dardanelles by ferry to Çanakkale. "Standing at Lone Pine Memorial at sunset was incredibly emotional - bring tissues and wear comfortable walking shoes as the terrain is quite hilly."

    Troy and Pergamum

    Start with the ancient ruins of Troy (1-hour drive). Next up is Pergamum (3-hour drive) with its impressive hilltop ruins. You'll need sturdy shoes with good grip for the steep theater. End your day in Kusadasi/Izmir (2.5-hour drive).

    Ephesus and Pamukkale

    Spend your morning at the impressive Ephesus ruins. "Go early before the cruise ships arrive and bring water - there's little shade among the ruins." Watch a traditional carpet weaving demonstration and visit the Greek village of Sirince. On day 6 head to Pamukkale's white travertine terraces (3-hour drive). Bring water shoes for the slippery limestone.

    
  • Days 7-8

    Mediterranean Coast

    Drive to Fethiye through Koycegiz Lake (4-hour drive). Take a boat to Turtle Beach and enjoy a mud bath. Next day see the ghost town of Kayakoy and swim at Oludeniz's Blue Lagoon. "The optional sunset dinner cruise in Fethiye was magical - definitely worth the extra cost."

    Antalya and Interior

    Travel to Antalya (3 hours) to visit Hadrian's Gate and Duden Waterfalls. The next day drive to Konya (5 hours) for the Mevlana Whirling Dervish Museum. "Try the local pide (Turkish pizza) in Konya - much better than tourist restaurants."

    Cappadocia

    Discover Cappadocia's unique landscape including Goreme Valley and underground cities. Consider the hot air balloon ride. "Floating over the fairy chimneys at sunrise was absolutely worth the 4am wake-up call." Book your flight for the first morning in case of weather issues.

    Safranbolu and Istanbul

    Visit the Ottoman town of Safranbolu (4-hour drive). Walk its historic streets before heading back to Istanbul (4-hour drive). Shop at the Grand Bazaar and enjoy your farewell dinner. "Leave extra room in your suitcase - the bazaar prices are amazing for leather goods and ceramics."

  • Days 1-2

    Istanbul

    Cappadocia

    Ankara

    Istanbul

  • Days 1-2

    Istanbul

    Start your journey where East meets West. The trip from Sabiha Gokcen Airport to your hotel takes about 1.5 hours with Istanbul traffic. Your first full day is perfect for exploring the historic Sultanahmet district. "Turkish people are very friendly and restaurants are everywhere, with reasonable prices due to the current exchange rate." Get to Hagia Sophia early before the 10 AM tour groups arrive. Remember to bring a scarf for the Blue Mosque as shoulders need to be covered.

    
  • Days 3-5

    Cappadocia

    Take a 90-minute morning flight to Kayseri. Stay in Göreme instead of Ürgüp to be closer to the main sites. You'll see incredible fairy chimneys, rock-cut churches and underground cities. Start at Göreme Open Air Museum in the morning to see the frescoes in the best light. The Rose Valley offers beautiful sunset views. The rock formations in Devrent Valley look their best between 4-6 PM when the light hits just right.

    
  • Days 5-6

    Antalya

    The drive through Konya takes about 7 hours, with a stop at the 13th-century Mevlana Museum. You can save time with a 1-hour flight for $150. The old town area, Kaleiçi, is beautiful for evening walks past Ottoman mansions.

    
  • Days 6-9

    Mediterranean Cruise

    Your gulet cruise starts in Kaş. Spend 4 days on the Turquoise Coast swimming and snorkeling in quiet coves. A recent traveler notes: "The narrow single mattress cabins are very tight for two people - consider upgrading to a larger boat if possible."

    Antalya Region
