- Esa· May 30th, 2020Automatic translation available in English. View in EnglishWe spent 10 days of wonderful discovery in Madagascar in January 2020 thanks to the Across Africa Tour and Travel team. We combined a small part to the East and a large part of the South to Tuléar. The Across team was well organized and flexible. To go into a bit more detail: we contacted Across after reading the reviews through the services offered by tour operators in various specialized tourism platforms, personally we're so glad we did, we noticed that planning a group trip to Madagascar was much more difficult than planning a trip elsewhere given the logistical challenges and the large number of hotels that don't have enough information online. Reading about what to expect on a trip to Madagascar on travel platforms was very helpful, but it was after we contacted Across that we were convinced we would have a great trip to Madagascar. Megan was very responsive to our many questions and provided us with all the information we needed to put together an itinerary to suit our requirements. Instead of spending a lot of time driving, we wanted to select a few home bases to fly to and from which we could do day trips. But then, during the trip we realized that some places are inaccessible by plane, so we'd have to do it by car. We only had one local flight, which enabled us to maximize our time in the parks enormously. We received excellent recommendations from Megan regarding hotels to stay in, and above all very useful advice on what to bring. After exchanging so many emails with Megan, we were really looking forward to meeting the guide on site who was really recommended by this organizer. He is very kind, very knowledgeable and had an excellent talent for anticipating our needs, sometimes even before we realized we needed them ourselves, but what the group loved about him is that he is a very talkative and animated person. During the time we spent in Toky's care, we were exceptionally well looked after, and we were so lucky to have him as our guide. Toky was also an excellent driver behind the wheel of a really comfortable car. We were relieved to find that, although the roads were rough, we felt safe all the time. While we were in the parks and reserves, we always had a local guide (and spotters) waiting for us, arranged in advance by Toky. The local guides were incredible spotters who found so many more creatures than we could ever have imagined, and this was true even during the night visits. You could say he selected excellent local partners to work with. We were a very nature-loving group, so we particularly appreciated Toky's understanding of our wishes. He was so patient with us, even though we may have wasted a little more time taking photos of what we thought would be interesting, despite this, the timing was well managed. Indeed, this itinerary recommended by Megan was perfect for us. The parks and reserves mentioned were full of life and we were able to see many species up close. We also chose to visit less frequented areas, which worked out very well as it felt much more like an immersive nature experience. The base locations that stood out for us were Andasibe, ranomafana and isalo. We enjoyed each location and found something new and exciting on each hike. We had a guided tour of the town of Antsirabe while enjoying a great rickshaw experience. The group was delighted to have Toky as our guide. For those wondering whether it's worth choosing a professional for your trip, I can say without hesitation that it was worth it for us. Honestly, we really appreciated Megan's organization so we highly recommend Across Africa Tour and Travel for your trip to Madagascar.Show moreAcross Africa Tours & Travel commented on this reviewThank you Esa for taking your time to provide us an honest feedback. - JNJOHN· January 8th, 2020I travelled with my wife & five-year-old daughter to Madagascar over the 2019/2020 new year holiday to enjoy a tour of the natural wonders of that marvelously friendly land. As has been the case with every tour that I have booked though TourRadar, the entire tour was well-organized and well-executed from start to finish. Toky, our tour guide & driver provided through Across Africa Tours & Travel, was truly a wonderful human being who made us feel completely welcome in his home land by tending to our every need, and sharing his broad knowledge about many aspects of Malagasy history, culture and economics. In addition to a breathtaking immersion into the habitats hosting the unique flora and fauna of Madagascar, we were also privileged to enjoy hospitality of the exceptionally warm & friendly Malagasy people. I’ve never felt more safe or welcome in any of the other 70+ nations around the globe I’ve visited. Madagascar may well be one of the best kept secrets among popular tourist destinations on the planet. Although some may think that an excursion characterized as a nature or “eco” tour sounds boring, I suggest that they’d hold a vastly different opinion of one after visiting Madagascar. The overall experience was thrilling!Show moreAcross Africa Tours & Travel commented on this reviewHi John, We are so glad to hear that you had a great experience with us.
