- Dara· May 20th, 2018I was traveling solo and ended up having a private driver and guides throughout my exploration of the wonderful country of Jordan. My driver "Sammy" made the trip just as memorable as the historic sites I visited. He was fluent in English which made the long drives to/from Petra very enjoyable and extra informative about life/culture today. I felt well cared for and safe the entire trip. We could stop for a roadside coffee & tea or fresh squeezed juice numerous times. Since I flew into Amman, but departed from Tel Aviv my itinerary was shuffled a bit, but worked out. Vera with the local support team also communicated toward the end of my travels to help navigate the border crossing at Allenby who had an Israeli drive get me to Tel Aviv to connect with friends.Show moreTrip date: May 2018
- AAlleksandra· December 17th, 2017Highly recommended! Such a wonderful introduction to the history and culture of Jordan. Ali, our guide, was very knowledgeable and helpful. If you can spend more time in Jordan, definitely do it, but the two day option with the Bedoin Camp accommodations is a wonderful option if you only have three days. We spent some time in Jerash, enough to get a history lesson and then explore a bit. Then a brief visit to the Citadel in Amman. Beautiful views of the city, and interesting background about its history and people. The Bedoin camp is definitely a highlight - Upon arrival at the Bedoin camp, we were served a lovely meal, and then enjoyed chai tea around the fire. Don't worry - no caffeine. The hillside behind the camp was lit with candle-style lights - the scene is beautiful. One of the men shared a hookah pipe with us as well, which added to the experience. Petra, however, is the star attraction, and it does not disappoint. One could spend three days exploring, but the four hours we had were enough to get a guided walk with Ali to the iconic treasury building, and time enough for those who wanted to hike or ride a donkey to the monastery. Just breathtaking. Some comments that will answer questions I had before I went: First, the border crossing fees - the Israeli exit fee can be paid by credit card, and there is an ATM on the Israeli side - use it before you cross to Jordan, but don't change your shekels or dollars to Jordanian Dinar until you get to the Jordan side. This will avoid a money changing tax on the Israeli side and get you more for your money. The Jordanian side is cash only. Also, the bathrooms on the Israeli side are better. The duty free shop on the Israeli side had good prices. I assume the other side did too, but did not go through the shop on the Jordanian side. Duty free shop is the last chance to get alcohol for those who care. It is very difficult and expensive to get alcohol in Jordan, if you want it. When you change your money, be sure to get a bunch of singles for tipping. Also be sure to exchange enough money to cover the border fees, tipping for the guide and driver and some for souvenirs. Bathrooms in Jordan before you reach the camp, each have an attendant and it is polite to tip a dinar. Lunch was provided at a nice restaurant with a buffet, but drinks you pay for separately 1-3 dinar depending on what you get to drink juice, bottled water or soft drinks. The juices came with ice. If you tend to be sensitive to local water, request without ice. It is also nice to tip a little bit at the restaurant for the servers. It is a good idea to bring a small packet of tissues in case you need to use a bathroom that does not have an attendant, which means no toilet paper or soap. At the Bedoin camp, the bathrooms are clean, bright and well stocked with soap and toilet paper. There is both electricity and wifi until slightly after midnight when they turn off the generator.Show moreTrip date: October 2017
